So my car was stolen right out of my driveway this morning at arpund 3am. Not sure how they got my keys. I either left keys in the car or they broke in an stole my keys. Ring camera caught nothing. You see the car at 2:30 and then it just dissapears which is so weird. I bought the car less than a month ago. This is unreal.

Did you look for your keys? Are they missing?

These days, with the correct electronics, they wont need a key to steal your car.

Was its GPS locator on? You might be able to track where it is from my BMW app if they did not turn it off.

I have no idea where my keys are. There's a possibility I left them in the car but who knows. Cops did a walk around and it doesnt look like anyone broke in. Maybe they fell out of my pocket and the car never locked. My BMW app is showing its still at my house and cop did say they like to tear the GPS out.

They now do relay attacks without having your fob. I keep mine in a faraday bag. Sorry for the theft and hope they recover. For added tracking, I threw in an AirTag underneath the back seat which is easy to remove if you know how (and if another iPhone is nearby).

If I ever get the car back I'll install my own tracking system since it appears bmw tracking is useless and these scum bags know exactly where it's located. Car stopped tracking right after they stole it and it still shows in my driveway on the app. Call BMW and they are unable to track it as well. Fuck my life. What do you guys think the odds of getting it back are?

They took the GPS out most likely. Still shows in my driveway and last check was the exact time they stole it. They knew exactly where the GPS was.

Mine is in a garage most of the time so it "shouldn't" get stolen, but I do have a tracker in it for the just in case. I went with just a basic smart tag from samsung.

That's probably the first thing any theif with a key to the car will disable. Takes literally less than a minute to turn it off from the menu.

That sounds smart but counter-intuitive since it makes a sound when it's near another iPhone that isn't the owner. So probably not that useful.

As for the relay attack, if I'm right - the key sends out signals for 2 minutes and doesn't transmit any further signals after that as long as it is stationary.

That is why you open it and disable the speaker.

It's not just about the audible sound - anyone with an iPhone also gets a notification if the owner's phone isn't nearby. Certainly doesn't hurt to have the airtag in your car but the location tracker relies on the tag probing another iPhone (and the iPhone owner will be notified that an airtag has been detected.) So again, it's counter-intuitive.

Not trying to derail from the original post - just pointing out that having an airtag might not necessarily save the day in tracking the vehicle. Chances are next to none.

very very slim. They normally have a plan to get them out of the area and likely overseas incredibly quickly.
