New Owner Questions
Hi,
I've got some questions about my new car M320i....thanks in advance for anyone's help. Can you set the idrive on power up to default to the last screen being shown when the car was turned off. So say it opens back in the radio? Can you stop the main screen showing the drive mode when you change it? Obviously it shows it on the instrument cluster, in my previous 1 series you could disable this message on the main screen. PDC sensors.....if the vehicle is stationary but in reverse and someone walks behind the car should the sensors cause an audio warning? Thanks |

I Drive is very configurable so you should be able to set the home screen(s) up as you wish, with the Radio on your home screen. I'm on ID7 so I can't say for sure, but I know on ID7 you do not have to have the drive mode on the main display, but it will be on the instrument cluster. Your PDC sensors will be active when you are in reverse as the car is anticipating that you will be reversing so it will give you an audiible warning if somebody walks behind the car, yes. |

Thanks. The car is a year old. iDrive 8 is fitted. I'll do some extra research to try and configure the home screen........couldn't see an obvious option when setting the car up
Again can't see an obvious option to stop the drive mode change being shown on the main screen. The PDC don't seem as sensitive as the previous BMW, have to try it with a few scenarios without hitting anything lol ! |

AFAIK you’ll always get the animation on the central display when you change mode (at least I’ve not seen an option anywhere to disable that and there’s nothing in the manual about it). You can move the widgets around so the media widget is the rightmost one and you can see it when the system starts but I don’t think you can make it open full- screen at system start. PDC seems pretty sensitive in mine: it’s actually braked automatically a couple of times when I’ve been reversing out of the garage, presumably worried I was going to hit the door frame! I do have the parking assistant plus though.

ID7 and ID8 have a lot of options. Maybe your PDC sensitivity has been reduced, I think I can do that in ID7. I have Parking assistant plus too, and it's far too intrusive for me. I have the senstivity turned down to minimum, otherwise my steering wheel constantly vibrated when any other vehicle came close to me, and in town with narrow roads, that's a PITA.

What a coincidence - I only just figured out how to turn off the mode select notification other day. Look for (or ask using voice control) “pop up notification menu” and then untick the drive experience notification.
You’ll still get the drive mode indicated at the bottom of the drivers screen but you won’t get the full central screen graphic anymore. |

Saracenus, thats brilliant.........its such a big screen I didn't think everyone in the car needed to know I'd dropped it into Sport mode (lol)........
I don't use Android Auto, anyone know how to stop the notification popping up when the vehicle us started? Sorry for this but finally I could do with detailing ideas........... I think the last owner liked car washes so in bright sunlight you can see the tail tail swirls, and the piano black trim is also dulled. Anyone know a good product for the external piano black trim, and has anyone used a professional detailer to give the car a mild machine polish? Cheers |

Do you want a product to correct it, clean it or protect it? If you get the paint corrected they should be able to correct the trim as well: for maintenance the main thing is correct wash technique rather than the exact product you use.

Meguiars Scratch X is very good for removing minor scratches.

ScratchX would be my suggestion as well. It's not very aggressive so is a good starting point and won't do any harm, you can always move on to something a bit more abrasive later if needed.

There's a thread here with some hints and tips on polishing piano black: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1571645.

I figured I would practice what I preach and just had a go at some of my piano black trim with Menzerna 2500. I didn't go overboard and suspect I could get it looking better with more work but after just 30s of polishing it's looking much improved already. I will admit I hadn’t realised how scratched it was till I took the first photo, just goes to show how much difference lighting and angle makes to it.

Hello, I picked up my used 330e on Saturday and immediately noticed a few scratches on the bodywork and the black trim on the door by the window, They polished out the ones on the body but the dealer told me that the one on the trim couldn't be polished out as it would ruin it. Fortunately for me they agreed to replace it.

I avoided the Piano Black interior to not have to deal with scratches and fingerprints. However I still used the following to protect the screen and the Gauge Cluster from wear and tear. https://screenprotech.com/ It’s expensive but excellent quality. Definitely worth it in my book, and they sell kits to protect other areas of the dash and center console. |
