Too optimistic. Having a chat with someone whilst salivating over the new G21 it It is refreshing to hear that a concept is very much being taken seriously this time around and discussion is in its infancy stage of inception.

Hopefully when everybody breaks up for the winter and they head to the more affluent ski resorts they will see the endless Audi RS Avants and Mercedes AMG's litter the resort car parks amongst the multitude of SUVs.
Sound like a step in the good direction. There are many ski resort in Canada just saying.

Yep, or M*35i actually since they are M Performance vehicles. The M135i hatchback and M235i Gran Coupe should join next year. Still not clear if an M135i sedan will make it for the F52 generation, nor if there will be an F48 X1 M35i.

The reason I included M240i as well is because it allows for the possibility that they could reuse that name from the prior generation car while replacing the I6 with an I4 that makes similar power. True, they won't do that for the F40 1 Series hatchback, instead replacing the current M140i with an M135i. But unlike that car (and every other sub 3-Series offering), the 2 Series Coupe will be built on CLAR and thus remain RWD, so I figure they may use that as an excuse to break the rule and set it apart from its FWD/AWD siblings.

A lot of people talk about the superior balance and lighter feel of the 228i/230i, as such I think that a B48 with 225kw in G42 badged as M235i could work quite well.
It could be a great car. Even more-so if it retains the 6MT option for those that want one. If it were to do that, it would be the very last non-M-proper offering with an available manual transmission (in the US).

Yes but no Audi RS Avants or Mercedes-AMG kombis like Zermatt,St.Moritz,Verbier,Grenoble,Chamonix etc...etc...
You see these all the time. I expect when I go next month to Switzerland I will still see plenty of these models.

6er is a Gran Turismo. Not a Gran Coupe.
Even though it should actually be called a 5er GT.
But I will go ahead and speculate hypothetically. Even though nothing has been discussed internally.
This is the last Gran Turismo.

I recall you also mentioning the B58 model goes away too. This will leave just the one model (in the US), albeit perhaps with 300hp+ by then (maybe even branded M235i or M240i, who knows) and the M2.
Yeah, G43 is not where I would expect to see it at this time, so my best guess it's dead.

Model lineup for G42 is just too early to predict. Give it another 6 months or so.

The i4 or other similar cars will probably provide the extra wheelbase (resulting in more rear legroom) that the 6GT provides.

They could probably replace it with the G38 in most countries tbh.

Are there pure chain restrictions or does awd + snow tires suffice for the passes there? I suppose there will be spots where only chains will do...

Will they? I am not sure that there are plans for LWB Gran Coupes or other even-numbered vehicles.

Or - since presumably the combination of hatchback plus rear passenger room was chosen for a reason and since they seem to be seeing growth in all markets - long wheel base SUVs. They already sell an X1 L* in China. A LWB X3, X5, X7? could be next.

The X1L has the hybrid drivetrain only - I guess this is due to packaging. I'm surprised they haven't introduced it in other countries yet actually.

An X4L and X6L could replace the GT quite well for almost everyone.

There seems to be gasoline models too, assuming internet sources are credible:

I also remembered there is a G08 X3 LWB model either coming soon or already available in China.

It's true that the fastback SUVs are closer to the GT aesthetic. But, it's not clear that feature is a must for potential customers. I suppose it could depend on market.

My understanding is that the 300hp tune of B48 (M35i) is only applicable in a FWD based platform.

It is for now, but it's a good bet that BMW will eventually have a longitudinal B48 that makes 300hp or more as well.

If they hope to stay competitive, you're absolutely correct.

Hopefully we will get a G30 45e as well to match G05 and G12.

But the upcoming G42 2er (i suppose that maybe, the next M2 is G87 coded?) will be produced in Mexico only for the American market, or for all the rest of the world also?

I can never guarantee that it won't ever, but definitely not anytime soon.

Heads up: some EOP dates have changed. Of note, F22/F87 and F82 CS are now ending a few months earlier than previously thought.
