Thought this was interesting, in addition to EV Credits of $7500, dealer incentives are still available on this despite being a new model. Alex on Autos recently bought one for long-term testing purposes and got a combined $11,600 in incentives/rebates.

I see GM has redesigned the Volt for 2022 (and is adding a small SUV) at a rather appealing price point.
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...fficial-debut/ For a commuter with 250 mile range @ $34K it may be a reasonable option. The article says the interiors are vastly improved over the previous version (which was one of the biggest complaints). I'm going to wait for some hands on reviews before passing any judgements. There are rumors that there may be a new $7000 fed rebate for any new EV bought. That could really jump start some buying. |

Last night, my cousin had a chance to inspect (but not drive) a Mach E in the GT trim because a neighbor owns a local Ford dealership. He found the exterior very nicely done for design and assembly, the interior somewhat plain/basic, but acceptable although the screen location and angle seemed a bit off (he once owned a Model 3). But, the moment he sat down, it was over. Very uncomfortable and short cushioned seats. Disappointing to hear this...he called it a "deal breaker" for him. Other opinions may vary, but I now also see at least one review that calls out the seating position and lack of thigh support.

One journalist said GM could ensure high volume by modifying the name/badge and supplying these to Tesla as the Model 2!

Now that's some funny stuff right there. Actually looks decent for an around town commuter and seems to be fairly well equipped for the price. I see Tesla dropped the price of the model 3 also. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...-y-price-drop/ The Bolt starting price is of $32K and $34K is quite attractive especially with its range matching Tesla's standard Model 3. If the Mini E had that range, I'd be trading my 2019 in for one |

I can recomend this chanel if you are interrested in elctric cars and cold climate. He speaks english but drives in Norvegian conditions. Mostly metric measurment tough..
Here's on of the test he did with Mach E. With those seats and the infotainment soloution, I would not call it an BMW competitor.. |

The idea of an electric Ford that also happens to be called a Mustang that also happens to be an SUV is in idiotic idea. This is not a mustang and never will be.

Agree but it's not like there's hundreds of thousands Mustang purists that will be lining up for this vehicle anyway. For the general public who is looking for an EV (something other than a Tesla), this does a great first attempt. I also think the "I don't want to buy a Ford" people will be happy to drive something that doesn't have a Ford badge on it...I think it's a really smart move by Ford. Who knows, maybe they will end up making the Mustang nameplate into an entire lineup.

What possibly makes this an "SUV"? This is simply a tall car, with a hatchback, like so many other passenger car vehicles that now have a higher roofline. Raising the roof a bit does not turn a car into an "SUV", and nothing else about it comes close. There actually is no remaining clear definition of "SUV" after the industry diluted the term with a raft of "Crossovers", but it used to include a body-on-frame construction, lockable diffs/full time four wheel drive, ride height for actual off-road use capability, and mean something about actual "utility" beyond extra cargo space for a Costco sized-package of paper towels. The Mach E is no Wrangler.

I think the Mach E was just leap-frogged. This one just drips of intelligence and creativity. This could be a strong 2nd place contender, depending how i4 turns out...and likely others yet to launch.

Yes, have to agree this Hyundai should leap-frog the Ford in order of precedence.
Having owned a couple of Hyundais in the past (Santa Fe's), I can attest that their build quality, features and pricing is quite good. The Ioniq5 really seems to have about everything one would want in a SUV. I do appreciate they left some buttons to control functions vs. the Model Y. I await actual pricing and some verified range numbers. I understand Hyundai's fielding a SUV first as that is the largest market. I would love to see an Elantra EV with this technology. Perhaps the Ioniq6 will fit the bill. If Hyundai can carry much of that concept car's exterior married with the Ioniq5 interior, I could go all in on that car. https://www.carwow.co.uk/news/4681/h...s-release-date 2022 appears to be shaping up quite nicely for EV choices. This car will be dead in the water if the price and design ain't right. Too many vehicles will have price advantage and looks advantage.

I sat in one last week. I was impressed. Model I was in was about high 40's, close to 50. Interior was actually really nice, especially considering that is not typically a Ford strongpoint. Lots of soft touch materials on the doors, dash, and center console. Seats were comfy too, not incredibly bolstered for sporty driving, but comfy nonetheless, and I typically can't get comfortable in Ford seats. Cargo hold was smaller than I was expecting. Not a lot of vertical space due to the raked roofline/windshield. Tech takes a bit of time to get use to, but the gauge cluster is nice, something the Model 3 could benefit from. Overall I was impressed, a very nice car, would love to drive one soon.

Mustang Name and Seats
I've been a BMW owner for over 20 years. Prior to that I had Fords. We had an early Taurus, the car that saved Ford in the 80's. When we were car shopping back then, as soon as I sat in the Taurus, the seats were SO comfortable, we purchased the car.
Ford is known for recycling popular car names, it never works. In early 2000's (I think) their big car was called the Ford 500. It sold poorly. It was renamed to the Taurus, it still sold poorly. It's the vehicle that will sell, not it's name. Here we all are, having made the decision that our next car will be a BEV, but no perfect choice. Tesla has a lot to offer, but still cannot assemble a car nearly as well as BMW. i4 looks promising, but will it be too little too late, and at what price? It's not worth 50% more than a Model 3. There is also the iX. Looks like a lot to offer, but also what appears to be a $85K+ price. That's model S territory. Then there's the Mach-e. |

The Mach-E is going to kill the i4 in terms of looks. BMW was nuts to go with the gapping Maw grill, but guessed that because Audi and Lexus maws made theirs ok. Should have been much less pronounced. AND going with an ICE architecture for the i4 was OK assuming that anyone who knew anything about EV structures, batteries, etc. would not notice. Waiting now for the iX. BMW leadership needs to wake up. Serious competition will kill them.

Drove one a few weeks back and wrote a review on the general section of the forums. I was pretty impressed with the "base" model. I think Ford has a winner on their hands.

I kinda like what I read about the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV especially if they re-institute the $7500 tax credit and free installed in-home charger. As more and more companies introduce their EV's it may pay to wait another year to see what other options will emerge. With the Hyundai motor group's introduction of their three EVs and the Ioniq 6 coming the potential for others enter our potential purchase lists look promising. Still pulling for the i4 though. One concern I have is how greedy the dealerships will become with "market adjustments" on these new vehicles. Personally I have no intention of paying anything north of MSRP for any of them. It would be nice if the manufacturers told their dealerships to hold pricing at MSRP or they receive no EV's to sell. Realizing that won't happen, but still would be nice. Personally, if a manufacturer did do that, their vehicle would jump up higher on my list of possibles. |
