I've had some A3 audis and I can say that my golf gti never suffered from same lag issues (throttle and turbo lag). It has a different tuning.

The m340i is an amazing car. The comfort mode now is much more linear than f30 without any lag that let the ride be safe and smooth. Then u jump to sport plus and feel that this car turns a hell of a beast!

My only bad luck was a noise issue coming from rear which bmw didnt solve yet and want to forward my car to a bodyshop hopefully they give a different option to fix it.
The lag only affects the S models and to a much lesser degree the RS models. Not in the A models from my experience. And I'm guessing not in the VW models either.

I went out and did some canyon runs and drag races with some friends one has a Camero SS the other a C6 Corvette . The M340 is fast. Surprisingly fast.

Having had one Audi, one was enough.

It had superb tech, a killer sound system and top notch cabin fit & finish, but the driving experience was anemic and not connected to the road at all. It reminded me of a Lexus.

Now owning an M5 and a M340i (and waiting to trade it for the incoming M3), I can't imagine ever driving an Audi and dealing with that turbo lag again

So much quicker feeling even in Comfort, and effortless transmission and engine combo. Loved it. However, along came the RS5 Sportback lol I had to have it. Solved the issues I had with the "S" models and I love the form factor of the RS5 Sportback.
IMHO, even the RS5 cannot match the instant power response of the mighty B58, although the RS5 (450ps) and 340i (385ps in 2021) are very close in the real peak power to the wheel.

I've owned them both back to back and the RS5 is definitely more powerful and aggressive than the B58. It's not as silky smooth in its delivery like the B58 but definitely quicker. I would have been pretty disappointed in getting one if it wasn't.

Yes indeed. For me i much prefer vw for entry level models instead of audi which only the top ones RS would really worth for their best tuning as well.

Congrats on the new M340i. Love the mix of Portimao and the Shadowline Pack. Enjoy it!

I lease or sometimes buy 2 new cars every 2-3 years. My last two i switched out were Infinitis. I've had Audis, BMWs, some american cars etc. I am curious if you have driven it in the snow yet. I found the Audi superior in the snow with BMW coming in 2nd.

Have not had any significant snow since I got it. The Audi torsen quattro was fabulous in getting out of deep snow banks. As for driving in snow, I didn't find it significantly better than an Accord with good tires.

The actual HP of the m340i is 405 HP as measured on a Dyno, check the video from the guys at RaceChip they did a comparison between the m340i and the F82 M4.

Yes, 405 HP is stock for the G20 M340i. BMW for the most part underestimates their published HP. This is why the reviewers consistently say how much faster the car feels than the 382 HP BMW claims as stock.

You can tune this car to 480 or 490 HP easily for under $500.0

I swapped a 2017 Audi S5 Coupe in March 2018 for a new BMW 440i Coupe and despite a slightly less powerful engine in the BMW, the driving experience was vastly superior; somehow the Audi always felt dead and uninteresting to me. I also found the Audi’s electric lumbar support totally inadequate and driving position all wrong (I’m 5’10” and very average build but the wheel was too high if the tops of the instruments weren’t ti be cut off and the seat was also uncomfortable under the thighs) After three perfect years in the 440i I have just changed to a M340i which is even better than the 440i!

That's exactly how I felt in my old SQ5.

I sold it after a month with less than 800 on the odo.

If I may interject, Lexus makes as good or better driving cars as BMW. At least the 3IS versus the F30. Superior steering and it was known as the better driver's car. Only downside was power. When you say Lexus you must convey the model. The crossovers are merely people movers. The RWD 3IS, LC500, RCF all have better steering than almost all BMW's. Now some maybe overweight ala the RCF but they sure are better driver's car than Audi's. Audi wins the aesthetic game, that's their claim to fame.

I took the same jug handle in the M340i that I had many times in the Audi S5.

Both had/have all season tires, so there's that.

In the S5, I felt like I was at the edge of the envelope I was comfortable with at about 45 mph. I really felt the understeer at this speed.

In the M340i, I hit 55 mph at ease without even trying. I could likely push it more when the weather improves.

But more than that, it was the lack of understeer that made things so much more confident in the M340i.
