So the base car is a lot wider, have better grip, is more stable and sound better than the F82 Competition. That’s promising but I’m missing the raving comments I was expecting but to be fair that was my guess for the MxDrive version. Guess I need to wait another year for those first drives . The G82 sure looks mighty though...

Thanks for posting these jstein55.

Also not a word about increased turbo lag, rather the opposite of more low down power and even power delivery. Guess they worked over the X3M version or the lag is introduced by the ZF AT.

Thanks for posting these jstein55.
I'm honestly waiting for production drives when the cars are out and on sale. Typically prototype drives seem to rave more about the car than when they are actually given to the journalist on their roads for at least a week of testing.

Oh, the last review had some very good stuff in it!

“We pit, and I swap my 2019 M4 for a 2021 M3. The difference? Obviously four doors instead of two, an additional 25kg and a one-tenth from zero to 62mph compared to the new M4.”

“It starts with the M3/M4 Competition versions, which will get 503bhp, followed by the mildly decontented and even sportier CS – rated at 527bhp – and trumped by the no-holds-barred CSL, with its higher-revving 542bhp engine.”

In a couple of the reviews they weren't exactly complementary of the feel of the manual transmission. I hope BMW will fix that.

Car and Driver review added to the original post.

While they do say that the car is an improvement, there are many details lacking about how the car drives in particular, the review read more like a brochure from BMW rather than someone who had driven it on the road and track, and comments on steering feel (a necessity in any C/D BMW review) were avoided twice in the article which is strange as even in the X7, C/D doesn't hold back on their feelings about BMW's numb steering of their cars.

Reviews haven't praised the M3's MT in the 20 years I've owned BMW manuals, but I've always liked the MT's, and as the buyer that is all that matters. Who cares what a reviewer thinks?!?

In serious debating on if the new M4 will be my next daily commuter, the low end torque part has concerned me the most by far. It's good to have them mention the "more generous low end torque" and "sharper throttle response". I'm hoping for them not just saying this while holding the rev up to 5k rpm at the track where the test took place.

BTW it has nothing to do with ZF8, a pure turbo thing instead. As evidenced by the fact that the in gear acceleration of the X3MC is much slower than that of the X3 40i.

Good point, I forgot that the S58 complaints were in relation to the X3 40i, apples to apples ZF8 with just the engines being different.

I would like to buy Jörg Weidinger a beer/dinner. From Motor1

M developer Jörg Weidinger tells me. “The manual transmission is part of our DNA and we fight hard for it."

Doubtful.

I wonder if you could specify which of the articles made that claim? Not every publication in the OP is reliable at providing future vehicle information. In fact, at least two on that list are known for deliberately posting misleading information.

That's one of the two I had in mind.

I would classify that information as deliberately misleading. To be frank, they don't have clue one about BMW's future plans - they are completely out of the loop.

If there's an M4 Gran Coupe coming at some point, expect reliable insiders to reveal that. Autocar is toiler paper.

It's because I'm a "manual 'til I die" kinda guy why I'm concerned about the feel of the transmission.

So we shouldn't care about their opinions of the transmission? Why do we post reviews of and seem to care about their opinions of the rest of the driving experience?
