Help wanted. Shoot this weekend.

I've been asked to get some "Mother and bump" photos for a friend. She's around 6 months gone so is fairly big.

I'm wanting ideas for shots really - some of just her - some with her partner.

They have also asked for black and white aswell.

just please don't use a backdrop. i see so many maternity photographers use the same old shit and it's just awful.

Was going to use flash on bump to try and darken any background so that I can create a black background for the b&w stuff.

What kind of backdrop are you thinking of?

do they have a nice home? have you scoped it out?

a cool idea might be to line her up with a gaggle of her girl friends (who aren't pregnant) on some clean background of a location. what i'm thinking of wouldn't work with everyone smiling or laughing, but straight-faced and pleasant. similar feeling to what you'd see in a PSA or something. what you can talk them into wearing/not wearing is up to you.

do you have any softboxes? I would use one to create more even lighting in the area you want lit. It would be pretty cool to use a light source behind and shoot a silhouette.

that works, too. i was referring to those fabric backgrounds, especially the ones that are "marbled." or whatever.

if you have a white backdrop, you could try some seamless stuff if you have enough lights too.

word. maybe move the box further back (away from camera, behind mama), so the falloff is symmetrical, too.

Their dining room is a chocolate brown - matt. So that should work for me I think.

is it shoot-through or bounce?
if the former, try using something to cover the light coming from the back and bouncing.

shoot through. You mean block the light from the rear of the flash?

yeah, it's nice.

I had a friend as me for some prego pics. She was already 8 months.!.!.! Needless to say she was on the large side of things. Anyhow, we just worked with a black and white background. I think they came out ok for my first try.... hope yours did too!!
