330e with B48B20B tuning
Hello,
I am new on this forum and I wanted a piece of advice. So I am considering buying an used G20 330e(around 30k km) and I found some that I checked on bimmercat and have the B48B20B engine which means that I can tune them to around 420hp(the petrol engine to 310 and 110 are from the electrical engine). My questions for those who own one and had them tuned like this: Do you have any kind of problems on long-term use? How do they hold up, how does the transmission hold up with this kind of power if everything else is stock? Because if it has any problems I'd rather just go for the 330i and go with it to stage 2 or something. Also, is it worth it? Like I know you have 420 on paper, but on high loads how much Hp do you have, you also have extra weight from the electric engine, wouldn't a stage2 330i or even a stage 1 be like almost the same on 100-200? If I'd get the 330i I'd go to stage 2 with it, but with the 330e I'd be afraid as it already has 410-420 hp without stage2, so wouldn't just getting a 330i and going to stage 2 be better than a 330e with stage 1? Thanks and sorry for the long post but I wanted to clarify some things as I am trying to decide between a 330i and a 330e, I don't really have much benefits in Romania from having a hybrid here vs having a 2 litre petrol engine so strictly from a performance and durability point of view which one would be a better choice. TL;DR: Would you rather have A 330e with a B48B20B and tune it to 420 hp or get a 330i and go with stage 2 and probably somewhere like 330hp? How do you think they would match performance wise? Hi,
First, don’t trust bimmercat on the engine code. It stopped updating around 2020 when BMW started asking monet for the data so sometimes it says a vin has the B engine when in fact has the A engine (like my car). Make the vendor check the engine code (is in the engine bay, a little down and to the left once you remove the beauty cover). Second, you should consider more things that the raw hp on a dyno. If you need an hybrid, plan to recharge it daily and drive less than 45-50kms a day in electric mode, go for the 330e. If you want performance, go for the 330i. Yes, the 330e is a beast in Xtraboost mode and the ones with the B engine can be tuned reliably to 300hp (around 404 with the electric engine) but: - This is only for short burst in Xtraboost , nitro style, after those it would be, if you tuned it, 260 (364 total). - The 330i weights 250kgs less so it’ll have better performance overall. Also best mileage on long trips. Also, a 330e with the B engine means that you’ll be looking for a car two year old at a minimum while a 330i can be more recent. So: get the car that better suit your needs not the more powerful one. |
