BMW Ranks Second in JD Power APEAL study behind Porsche

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Following the news that BMW Customers rank third most loyal among luxury brands, BMW is also ranked second among all brands for most appealing.

Quote:
The 2019 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study measures owners’ emotional attachment and level of excitement with their new vehicle across 77 attributes, ranging from the power they feel when they step on the gas to the sense of comfort and luxury they feel when climbing into the driver’s seat. These attributes are combined into an overall APEAL index score measured on a 1,000-point scale. The study, now in its 24th year, is based on responses gathered from February 2019 through May 2019 from nearly 68,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2019 model-year vehicles who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study, which complements the annual J.D. Power Initial Quality Study,SM is used extensively by manufacturers worldwide to help them design and develop more appealing vehicles and by consumers to help them in their purchase decisions.

I believe it. I'm fiercely loyal to BMW even though sometimes the things that break down cause me pain.

BMW does have a good grasp on the layout of the car. Everything is logically placed even if it will stop working sooner rather than later. We're creatures of habit.

Uhh "apeal" is not a ranking for "most appealing".

It's a multi-faceted rating for various things....

Genesis is impressing. Watch out Lexus, Acura and Infiniti.

Porsche is a benchmark to beat. Let's go BMW

Infiniti is so f*cked up right now it's not even funny.

And Nissan is an absolute train wreck.

Lol will never happen. Porsche are the kings of the automotive landscape. every car they make is best in class across the board and has been for decade now. BMW gave them a great run for their money in the previous decade and then completely sold out to mass appeal without a silver lining (see: Porsche's dominance in the SUV category for their breadwinners, while using the gains to keep their legacy of making the best sports cars).

Agreed. Love BMW but you can see where they lost their identity and tried to be everything all at once

I would love to see the demographic of people they polled...... Genesis, Volvo, and Lincoln are fairly high up on this list and the market does not reflect that...... at all......

Have you driven a Hyundai, genesis or Kia recently? I mean they aren't stealing BMW drivers but Lexus and Acura should take note, these cars are getting scary good...

Again have you been in a new Volvo, I think they won 2nd or 3 best interior behind one of he giants... Bentley or Rolls Royce can't remember which.

It doesn't surprise me BMW ranked high in the appeal category. BMW owners are pretty loyal. It's not that all BMW drivers are enthusiasts but most enthusiasts are BMW fans at some level.

Excellent point!!! I mean really.....how many of you receive these JD Power surveys?! In 18 years of BMW ownership, I've received maybe 3 TOTAL JD surveys, and one of them was strictly about navigation features. If I remember correctly, one was sent to me during the E9X years. I guess they really don't want to know what I think.

Well clearly it was close to happening ...but based on what we have seen in recent years , BMW doesn't have the chutzpah to make it over the top. BMW is leaving a lot of would be M2 sedan and 2 series sports sedan buyers by the wayside along with G20 3er owners that don't want AT, hoping they will all instead buy an X3M or a single offering of M2 coupe. That's not a decision that will move them to the top.

Tesla doesn't make the list. Is it not considered a luxury car? They didn't survey enough of the 400k plus owners lol. Exclusion by discrimination against EVs

As far as I'm concerned, VW Group products being #1 and 4 is even more confusing.

After owning Audi products and dealing with their service/maintenance - let me suggest anyone think twice! You'd think they'd learn from the diesel scandal and to better serve their customers, but they really don't give a crap about their customers. First I thought it was the South Florida dealers, then after dealing with Audi corporate, I realize it's systemic.

Vehicles with published TSB's for problems and the dealers refusing to do the repairs because they repeatedly claim they cannot reproduce the issue. Even with me standing there showing them the issue, and their acknowledgment, yet they continue to refuse. And Audi corporate just as moronic.

Then there's Audi's drivers assistance (cameras, lane change assist, etc.). If your car needs a wheel alignment, the dealer will not do the work unless you agree to have these systems "recalibrated" to a tune of $800. No joke. Morons. Google it, its a real issue for their crappy engineered cars. Or a corporate scam pushed down to dealers.

Even a simple software update requires an act of congress to get them to agree to do under warranty.

My guess is Porsche is no different, or little difference.

Just my 2 cents.
