When is this car dropping exactly or around when???
I bought a end of year 2018 330 to hold me down for a bit while the new M340 gets cheaper or the new 440 drops then I will hope for it to be so good I won't want to get a 911 |

Well looks like I will just have to hold onto my current 428i convertible, or snag up one if the last 440's next year. The whole reason I bought the car was the convertible hard top. I don't do rag tops. :-/

Rag tops = Huge blind spots, unsightly wear spots, crease lines in the fabric, and a tiny easy to damage rear window just to name a few negatives. |

Love soft tops to look at and the weight reductions are +ve for driving dynamics.
However, if you're forced to park on the street, soft tops are an easy target for vandals with sharp knifes who delight in ruining people's pride and joy. Happened to someone I know with a Porsche Boxster on more than one occasion. He changed car and moved house

Well, so I guess for people who want a hardtop convertible, the current generation is the one to buy. Almost tempted myself even though I'm not sure a convertible is practical for me.

Rear quarter views of the G23. Based on the amount of protective camo has an other winter (2020) of testing as all-new models have 2 seasons of hot/cold testing prior to market availability.

Im not disappointed, if I buy a 4-series, I will buy the coupe. I hope it looks very much like the 2019 3-series, that will be one sharp car IMO. Maybe they will make a hardtop like the E46 but those things are a pain to work with an put on and take off. I just hope the front end doesnt look like scott26 posted in this thread, post #41 https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=41 If it looks like that, Im out no matter what, these huge grills IMO are only making the car(s) look worse, example the 7-series LCI Last edited by damills; 03-06-2019 at 02:30 PM.. |

Does anyone know if the G22 (2021-coupe) and the G23 (2021 ragtop ) will offer a 6MT in any trim less than a "pure"
Quite amazing how little; news there is on the G22 and G23.... too far off? ~Frost

I’ve never been much for convertibles but this looks promising for the G22. The parts I don’t like about the G20 are gone and this seems to be a radical design change in every way from the current 4-series and the G20 which is both exciting and a bit scary. It does look to borrow lines from the eight which is promising, the eights weakness is it’s size and the soft awkward looking grills. It sounds like the 4 will get a radical but more agressive front end.
The camo. cutoff at the C-pillar make the rear look unproportionally long and ugly but I think that’s just an illusion since one advantage of a soft top is that the rear can be made relatively shorter. We’ll see but I can’t wait to see the new M4 coupe I suspect it will be really cool even if it might not look like any BMW we are used to. |

As an M235i Convertible owner who also looked at the 4 hard-top convertible, I'd make a few observations which are, of course entirely subjective.
The latest 5-layer soft-tops give pretty much the same noise levels as the hard-top equivalent on real road surfaces. I tested both coupé and convertible 2 Series, and I couldn't tell the difference. Especially when BMW insist on adding extra pseudo-exhaust noise through the audio. I don't see security as an issue. No one in their right minds leaves anything inside a car when parked, soft or hard-topped. Any serious/deranged criminals will just hammer through the windows anyway. My soft-top 2 Series loses very little space to the folded roof. When I looked at the 4 I couldn't believe how little space was left with the top down. For me, it rendered the car useless for carrying any serious luggage securely. Aesthetically, I found the 4 convertible inelegant with the roof up. For me, the engineers hadn't completely cracked the problem of folding the metal into the boot - the top-up version concedes too much to folding practicalities. However, I would concede the point about rear visibility: you absolutely need the reversing camera and you have to return to your learner-driver days of using all the mirrors conscientiously when reversing/parking. I'd also concede the coupé version of any model is always going to have smoother lines (think RR Wraith vs Dawn). I think BMW are responding to the positive feedback on the 2 Series convertible in deciding to switch to fabric roof, given the comparable noise levels and far greater boot space a fabric roof provides. However, I appreciate that these coupé vs convertible and soft-top vs hard-top aesthetics are always going to be subjective.
