The reflector is omitted in a lot of locations outside the US. It’s a US federal regulation/requirement so there is no option to omit it in the US. For the M logo, BMW doesn’t install it on US-bound cars, for some reason. It’s the “3DZ Without Lines designation outside” item on your order sheet. But of course they’re happy to sell it to you as an accessory…

I picked my M440i GC up this morning, with the 860M wheels. Because of the talk about the plastic inserts, I tapped on different parts of the wheel and I could hear the difference in materials. But looking at it, I wouldn’t guess those parts are plastic. I suppose it’s for unsprung weight savings since the i4 can option these wheels?

I’m glad you asked because you’re referencing my two favorite mods:

1. Painted Reflectors from IND

2. M Badges from BCS Tuning

That’s how the car ships everywhere except the US, it restores the car to euro spec and how the designers wanted it. Ordered the parts and had them installed independently the same day I took delivery.

Ordered the painted reflectors, like the fact you can order them with ceramic coating already applied.

Ordered the M Badges, but not sure if I will use them, I do like the clean look as well.

Great to hear, I’m a big fan of these minor mods.

Be advised that there are two different types of M badges. The ones that I showed in my photograph are chrome; they are also available in cerium which may be important to you depending on what type of exterior trim you have.

Lots of detail here:

Ah I was on my phone and didn't notice the outline. Also the 860Ms drew my attention!

There are gloss black M badges on shopbmwusa.com also: https://www.shopbmwusa.com/product/1...ACK-HIGH-GLOSS

I didn't even see mine in the carrier assignment state. It was at "Entering assembly line" and flew through the assembly, quality check, final assembly, ready for transport, and carrier assignment steps in <12 hours and then was stuck in "Dispatched from factory" status for 6-7 days. 10 days at carrier assignment doesn't sound normal but going through all those steps in 12 hours like mine did doesn't sound normal either. Maybe the status codes aren't always up to date/correct?

Fortunately you won't be delayed by the reduced number of ships going through the Panama Canal due to drought.

Traded the 2022 G80 for an upcoming M440i build.* Week 39 production, the wait begins...

M440i AWD
Black Sapphire Metallic**
Tacora Red Vernasca Leather
Open Pore Fine Oak Trim
Driving Assistance Package
Shadowline Package
Parking Assistance Package
Premium Package
Coling and High Performance Tire Package (861M wheels)
SensaTec Dashboard
Front/Rear Heated Seats
Icon Adaptive Laserlights
Drive Recorder

Every available option except 5G wifi hotspot

-----

*My Prior G80 was bought used from the dealer and was a stripped model with few options and RWD. Fantastic car, but was always a temporary solution prior to ordering a model to my spec. We had 2017 440 Gran Coupe and loved the form factor, especially the hatchback. So, back to an M440i for us. This is the 14th BMW we will have owned in the last several decades.

**Black isn't a color, it's a hobby...

This sounds amazing! I seriously want to do this as well. I'm moving back to California next summer and I would love to pick up an M440i at the PDC and drive it back home from the East Coast . Please post a travel/trip report!

Yeah, I had to wait for a while, but after all, PCD perfectly lined up with vacation plans. It was worth the wait.

Beautiful color and great photos! Did you have PPF added before the trek? Wondering how it held up cross-country, if you didn't get PPF. I'm still debating adding it to mine.

I didn't get PPF. I expected the car to get few small rock chips, and that's what happened.
If perfect paint is important to you, you should get PPF.
