For a G20 330e registered before 1 April 2020, the rate is 16% for the tax year 2019/20 (which ends on 5 April). Then it drops to 8%.

Several websites suggesting 16% dropping to 12% for 20/21 on cars reg before April 2020. Based on 38 mile range. Love to think that 8% was right but..... Think HMRC have simply applied last years BIK % to my code for 20/21 which appears to be wrong. Have to say the info available online is shocking considering we are in April and 3 days off new tax year. Anyone would think there was a global pandemic following UK leaving EU.....

This link clearly identifies the difference in EV range when using NEDC and WLTP.
https://ev-database.uk/car/1212/BMW-330e NEDC - 41 miles WLTP - 37 miles Unlike emissions and fuel economy, these range values do not change from trim level to trim level, so all 330e are assessed on the same EV range. |

Finally got through to HMRC and based on my car being registered before April and on NEDC figs (38g/41 miles) they have set at 8%! for 2020/21. V nice as was expecting it to drop from 16% to 12%. I will be putting the saving aside though......lol

I checked my BIK for 20/21 and it seemed to be at 14%. I contacted our HR services team, they talked to the leasing company, and now it's set to the 8% rate based on the NEDC figures - 330e registered in November.
Thanks to you all for prompting me to confirm! |

I've had my first pay slip since taking delivery of 330e MS in March. I am getting taxed at 14%. Trying to get hold of lease company to understand what's driving that number. Tricky trying to find the NEDC range figures from an official source to send to then. Assuming the 37g/km CO2 is correct.

They are now mentioning 'optional remuneration arrangement'. Where I could have cash instead of a car, normally you are taxed on the higher amount. I believe any car sub 75g/km is exempt. This is all why I wanted to send lease company the official figures (if different to what they hold)...

I tried in vain to see an official BMW 41 mile NEDC figure, quoted on a few websites and yet somehow HMRC are using it despite P11s not being sent yet. |

I found a few reviews going back to the launch of the 330e that also mention the 41 mile figure. I also followed some links to government websites that were supposed to have official data, but the files they downloaded appeared to only have data for a tiny number of cars.
Paulf, my car also comes via Arval, so not sure if the discussion my HR team had with them will prompt a wider change in their data. I'll not spend the savings quite yet just in case! |

I found a press release with the 37g/km + 41 NEDC number... same with used BMW at Listers
BMW customer services were very vague, to the point that they said go back to the dealer! Crazy all this leg work to get a number. TBH, I just want the right number... Escalated within the lease company so see what that turns up. Either way 14% makes no sense.

How long does the company car take to appear on HMRC website? I dont normally bother to look as my employer is on the ball. Car will be two months old soon and I know Lex has added the car as I had the BIK email from them a few weeks ago.

Update:
Had a written response (email) from an online genius... As your car was registered before the 6th April 2020, your BIK rate would have been 16%. However, since we are now in the next fiscal year, your BIK rate has been reduced to 14%. So there are inferring that the range is less than 30 miles... to be in the 14% bracket

Further update:
Lease company have written to say the electric mile range only applicable to cars registered April 2020 onwards, and that the 14% figure is correct. The HMRC website says different... the forum says different... I just don't believe them!! Frustrated.

My tax code along with a few others has been changed to reflect the 41 miles, HMRC did this without any prompting from me. My last year P11D only shows the model and emissions not the range so they must have based their decision on other data |

But being taxed at source means my payroll being responsible for taxing and they are reliant on info given to them from lease company I will continue to challenge by pointing them at HMRCs method of calculating tax.

I've provided my payroll guys with all the HMRC links to have the argument with Arval. As it stands will be taxed again at 14% this month. Funny though, they did say that if it post April, BIK would be 6% Shame that they haven't admitting anything to me on email

Cert of conformity
Finally received the attached for my vehicle from BMW dealer which suggests for my car spec, that the range is just under the 40miles/8% bracket so BIK should perhaps be 12%. I was given a figure of 41 miles originally, which HMRC then used to put me in the 8% bracket but I was concerned about the effect of having the larger wheels with the Plus Edition. Anyone unsure, should try and get their hands on their vehicles copy of this, I think.
