Because it takes two. I stuck it out longer than I should have. My ex spent years mentally abusing me. It took a lot of inner strength to pull myself out of that dark space. She was the one that wanted to separate twice. She was the one out clubbing doing who knows what. She finally forced my hand when things went downhill with my relationship with my daughter. She claims she did nothing to make our daughter behave badly around me. I think otherwise. Especially, when I said I wanted to get professional help to figure out what is going on. She said nothing is wrong and she's fine. That finally made me go seek legal help.

Plus it's very telling when a Catholic priest didn't even talk me out of filing. He was my last gut check before signing and submitting the papers.

Agreed, family law in this country is trash. It's very skewed against men.

It's absolutely ridiculous that some people have to give half of what they have due to a divorce. The child support laws are another joke. Make no mistake.....the best interests of the children are way way down on the list when it comes to why child support laws exist.

I played Black Ops for two or three years but not any after cuz the maps got too big and it encouraged camping which ruined it for me. Haven’t played online with any game since.

But I was really on BO, by the end my K/D was 5.9 without spawn trapping or rage disconnecting. Also loved zombies, my high was two player, we got to level 65 using thunder gun and electric wall, took like 5 hours. Good times.

Good question.

1. She has always pulled her weight, meaning always had a job.
2. She is fiscally responsible, including saving.
3. She's a great cook.
4. We always expressed our appreciation each others contributions and talents.
5. We set aside some time for each other, even while raising 2 kids.
6. We have common goals.
7. We always lived within our means.
8. I still open doors for her.
9. I write down honey-do's and complete them.
10. She doesn't try to do a man's job and I don't try to do a woman's job, but we do help each other when needed.

Yeah we got bored doing the same thing around 61/62 and decided 65 was a good number to stop on. Usually I liked to play with randoms and make it to the 30s or if some opens the door on the stage I’ll act noobish to start getting people killed.

I blocked her on all social media, deleted all photos, untagged myself from any photos, threw away my wedding ring (it was a cheap $90 titanium thing).

I told her to refinance the house and her car into her name, packed my stuff and left. She asked and I was already unhappy, so I banged it through.

Now almost 6 years later she still tries to contact me now again through a new phone number or new email address, which is ignored and blocked again.

Every single on of the 20 or so new cars I have bought. But those I went into knowing I would lose.

The WORST was suing my HOA board and losing due to lawyer incompetence, and then, insult to injury, being held responsible for the HOA’s legal fees.

I can laugh about it now. Around 1997, I was in coffee futures. I had a about $7k in call options. As the price went my way, I leveraged it and kept loading up on more calls. I had a pager back then and when I got paged by my commodities broker, I call in on the land line and confirm the load up. The price was going my way and I originally planned to sell when my call options value hit a set price.

Then a good friend surprised me one day by coming into town. Next thing I know, we were hitting the strip club early, drinking and good times!!! Now, in the middle of the good times, I couldn’t feel my pager vibrating. I do remember thinking man these are some great lap dances. Well, it was my broker paging me to confirm my sell point, since my call options hit the price that I preset to dump and make $$$$$$.

But, my drunk a$$ was too busy being in stupid fun. I never called my broker back to confirm the sell and capture my profit.

Next morning, recovering from my hang over, I see that I have several messages on my answering machine. I also noticed my pager was not where I usually put it when I was home. I hit play on my answering machine and then I hear my broker begging me to call him. Then, I log on to my AOL account and check the price of coffee futures. Well, it hit a high and then it tanked because some guy said coffee crop would be plenty. I liquidated all my positions about 30 minutes later with a net effect loss of around $21k. And, I never found my pager.

Needless to say, I was shocked and dumbfounded. I can laugh now. But, back the, it took me weeks to mentally get over that loss.

Long story short, pro life long gf, anti marriage
Like any other risk there are upsides and downsides. Like forums talking about car problems, talking to people in general and the divorced person goes on and on about how horrible his marriage was, then can't let it go for years or decades. Ask the happily married person about his experience and he say "everything it good" or "good and bad" but the endless droning about his past doesn't happen (note the people here).

Happily married for 15 years, got married when I was 36, likely the best financial decision I could make. Mortgage/utilities cut in half, vacations easy to go on and far cheaper, work around the house far simpler, discounts on insurance, can only think of positives financially. She is 5 years younger than me, has no interest in retiring and with her carrying insurance and reduced expenses, increased savings I can likely retire 5 years sooner than if I was single if I want to.

EDIT - Also add that it isn't surprising that when you ask people about their divorce experiences most have nothing good to say about it. Not like someone raves about their great divorce, it wasn't something they ever wanted to happen and it is unlikely to go well. Ask people how their last car crash went and it is negative also, doesn't mean driving a car is a bad idea or that it is inevitable. Divorce rate is 50% but consider all the bad reasons people get married (pregnancy, money, too young, think they can't find someone better) and if you eliminate these from your life the chances also drop. I decided a long time ago that I would only get married if I found the right person and was perfectly fine being single.

No guarantees, safest option is to live alone, have no relationships, stay away from everyone else, don't travel and only leave your house as necessary.

Easy, my BMW 128i and my Mk7 GTI that I bought new.
That was an easy 65k I could have used towards investing.

But don't dwell on the past. Focus on the present. And don't make plans for the future because God laughs every time you do!

Funny you say that, it is similar to asking how a wealthy person got so rich and a poor person got/stayed poor.

One person doesn't need to explain and the other gives too much of an explanation.
