Sports Sedan - Guilia Ti vs Stinger

Looking to get into a sports sedan for my 2nd car / daily driver. Will most likely go outside of BMW and the Stinger and Guilia Ti are my top choices as both can be had on the 2nd hand market in the mid 20s. Also I just want to try something other than BMW.

Anyone had any experience with one or both of these?

I'm aware of both cars internet reputation, both the good and the bad. I would love to hear from anyone who dailies one of these and get some first hand knowledge/feeedback.

Had a Giulia for lease for two years. Loved it. It was a top spec (can't remember the sub-model) RWD, perf. pack car. I dumped it off end of lease as the pandemic started as I didn't need the car with all the changes. I lived with just my truck for a year and now that summer and normal life is coming I just leased a Genesis G70 3.3T R-Spec AWD (I think its called). I got annoyed with my Giulia not being AWD with shit cold weather and on summer tires. This time I went AWD with "Perf. All Seasons" Love the car. Heard it's similar to a Stinger so one to check out if it's not on your list.

I've never owned either but I'd roll with the Giulia if you are leasing. It's the benchmark sport sedan as far as driving dynamics go. I've enjoyed the examples I've driven. The interior is a bit sub-par relative to competitors but it's nice enough and better than the Stinger. Plus Alfa Romeo is a more storied brand than Kia .

I agree with one small caveat, if you're buying I'd really look hard at the Kia, not as storied as the Alfa but I'm going to bet cheaper and more reliable in the long run. Don't get me wrong, there is something special about Alfa and it's history, I love the look of the 4C and 8C but the maintenance would worry me if I was going to own them for a long time.

The 2.0T Alfa's are actually decently reliable. Most of Alfa's issues were early on with the QV engines. You might get the occasional electrical issue here or there, but not as bad as people claim it to be. I have two friends, one with a 2018 and 80k miles and another with 50k, no issues other than the alarms randomly going off once or twice (typical Italians ) Giulia's drive amazingly, better than anything in their class, just wish you could turn off the traction control.

Stinger is likely the smarter long-term purchase as well as more practical daily due to the larger size inside and out and hatchback but not as engaging but still a great car thanks to Albert Biermann. More GT car, while the Giulia is a pure sports sedan. The G70 is a nice bridge between the two cars as well. If going Stinger, I would avoid the I4 and only get the TTV6.

Good luck.

One of my neighbors always had BMWs in his garage and driveway and suddenly a Giulia popped up. Since he has had both, I asked him for his opinion. He told me that he preferred the Giulia (but he was picking up another BMW that week) and that the dealer had two Giulias in stock for loaners.

I myself am giving serious consideration to the Stinger. As I would buy and keep for an extended period I would not give the Alfa even a nanosecond of thought.

But that is just my personal thought.

I would give Quadrifoglio serious consideration. That car is properly fast and agile.

2.0l turbo lacks character. Stinger will seriously outpace the TI

Giulia drives better overall but the Stinger isn't far off and no slouch and should be more reliable. I think the G70 is pretty much the lux version of the Stinger and worth the consideration.

We have the Stelvio and the handling is absurd for an SUV. No issues FWIW.

Guila, but be careful. Alfa Romeo is known to be very unreliable. My friend's Guila is nothing but problems.

JD Powers ranked them as the least reliable car brand on the market.

You need to decide what you care most about. Personally would get the Alfa, for me it would be the emotional, "I really like this car", instead of the Stinger which I see as the sensible, smart financial choice. Every time I read a review or see a Stinger I think they added in what you get for the money (the value), and not as much about the car they really wanted. Nothing wrong with this, likely is the best long term way to buy cars, just depends on who you are and what you want to deal with.

Also depends on how long you plan to own it and what the actual out the door costs are for both.

Think the Stinger also has more room in it? Doesn't matter that much to me but I don't know what you need.

Oh no ..dont use JD Power as an example of reliability. There is a member who posted above who will chastise you for even considering that a somewhat reliable source.

Coming from an Italian ... I agree to stay away from the Giulia or any Alfa.

The problem with JD Power is they don't segregate the problems. Car lunching the engine is treated the same as someone confused by the HVAC controls.

A lot of the Alfa issues were with the Ferrari engine, the base Giulia or Stelvio should be fine really.

Agree completely - JD Powers - "With smartphone apps increasingly giving owners an alternative, some will give up on the vehicle’s built-in systems that caused that initial frustration. That’s problematic for automakers, as a lot of the vehicle’s value is tied up in these systems and they don’t want to hand this business over to third parties.”

Or, once you figure it out it is a non problem (I think I am far better than the average person). Either way you aren't stranded on the side of road and this "problem" it isn't a reason I wouldn't buy it.

If you are considering the base inline 4 for both cars, giulia all the way, if the stinger v6 turbo is in the mix, go with the stinger.

There's a new more powerful base 4 in the Stinger now.

But I would also say the stinger is defined by it's V6, that seems to be what it was designed to be paired up with.

Is the Guilia non GTV really a better car? That seems very suspicious to me. Maybe just to have something different?

Yeah also started looking at Stelvios and am starting to gravitate there. And you can grab a pre-owned mid 20s, performance pack high 20s.
cant wait to test one.

yeah for a daily i think turbo 4 is the way to go. plenty of power, better mpg, and cheaper to insure. Dont need 2 turbo 6's.
