Regarding it looking like Lexus from behind, the reverse (?) light housing is what sets it off. Reminds me of RC taillights. I think if changed to red or amber (dk legality of this), probably much more bmw...or at least less Lexus.

Car looks great to me inside and out. My only gripe is the kink on the bottom of the headlights, seems overstyled there. Overall it looks like a proper BMW.
The measuring stick to me is how it will drive. Please me more Alfa Romeo than Audi this time around. Prove to me that we enthusiasts still matter to you. |

Yeah... I'm not sure if it's the darker colour but I definitely prefer the side body lines of the previous gen which makes it look more aggressive - looking forward to seeing it in person to confirm.

This hue of blue color is very vivid. Will undoubtedly be a top seller. G20 design took some time to appreciate but I like it.

They just needed to make that clear housing thinner so the red L-shaped lens stood out more. It's clear that the 3D L-shaped lights are a big part of BMW's new design language, so it's weird that they made it less prominent because of that bigger reverse light housing.

Kinda disappointed now that I have seen the pics of the car out in the real world. I hate to beat the dead horse but it does look like a Lexus. Even if it drives better than my current 340 I cant get over the body style. Looks like I might have to stretch the budget for either the X4 M4.0, X3 M4.0 or 440i x drive grand coupe (if still avail). Bummed about the new 3. I was really looking forward to something spectacular visually. Instead they went with design cues from the far east. Oh well, life goes on (lol)

The thing is hot, no doubt. Pics out in public are promising. All the haters gonna hate, but I think they nailed it.
For fun, my list of recent BMWs I think they styled well: - G20 3er - G30 5er (except black panel between kidneys, but easy fix so gets a pass) - G15 8er - G05 X5 and G01 X3 My list of recent design turds: - M2 Comp (sadly there is no proper fix for the stupid shape of the kidneys) - Z4 (messy front fender design + hood line + boring rear end + honey comb grill inserts) - X2 for so many reasons Seems hit or miss lately, but I think that is what they were going for with their recent campaign to give each model a distinct look. I give them props for being bold when the industry has been so copy and paste, but at the same time it has caused some models to not look like BMWs at all, depending on the eye of the beholder. I would like to see BMW learn from these design exercises and get back to a place where every car looks universally attractive and unquestionably like a BMW, whatever that may look like in today's day and age. Just my 2 cents while we're all just bitching and moaning here.

Small skinny jean ass is what I don't like on this car, that trunk is 6 inches long and smaller than a 1972 mini trunk. Overall I'm sure the looks will grow on me.
Of course the last real 3 series was the Bavaria, or was it the 2002? It's hard to remember I'm so old. |
