Some are confused between break-in time & Break-in service.

Only real M's have a break-in service.

Additionally, launch control is available immediately with non-M's.

If BMW was concerned about break-in's on non-S spec motors they would have built in a safeguard against LC prior to XXXX miles.

These are run of the mill motors, light it up as soon as you get it.

Then why do they specify in the user's manual to drive the car in a specific manner for x miles if it doesn't matter?

Why do they allow you to use launch control right away if it were to matter?

I still broke mine in...Sorta. I'd say about 80% normal and 20% hard during the first 1,000 miles.

I was told these engines are already broken in no such thing as break in period by my CA. Asked a few people and they said the same. I put it into sport + and have been enjoying it with no limits. Let's see what happens
What did the car's manual say?
1st 1000 miles keep under 45k rpms and 100 mph

why would it be bad if you slowly increase the driving intensity over the first 1000 miles? its not that is why i am doing it.

Taken from the handbook:
Do not use Launch Control during the > break-in period (defined as Up to 1200 miles) for the Engine, transmission, and axle drive; 200 miles for the Tires, 300 miles for the brakes; with same break-in periods for any replaced components (brakes, tires, etc.)

Why give us an M340I with power that we can't fully utilized as we would like on the streets without risking jail. Perhaps top speed should be 75MPH eh. Your argument is bullocks.

Does the manual state that launch control is ok during the first 1200 miles? I thought that the manual discourages this.

Even so, launch control applications don't usually involve reaching rpm beyond 4500. Launch control is about quick acceleration, and higher rpm from a dig can detract from this by way of wheel spin (yes, xdrive cars have the same launch control as rwd as far as I know).

I just got one today. Was gonna get a 2019 540i but that blue 2020 M340i in the showroom got the best of me. The digital dash is awesome. Don't know why people hate it.

no break in, just started giving it the beans from the dealership drive home.

I was probably about 85%-15%.... some of that was muscle memory from my previous car and some of it was being in a rush.

I just don't want to see any fluids leaking onto my garage floor and I especially don't want to be spending any unnecessary time at the dealership.

I currently have a '17 340 w/ 6MT, rwd, & MPPSK which I will be turning in soon. The other day my wife and I went for a quick spin in a '20 M340xi, no rwd cars on the lot. Nothing can be done about losing the 6MT but the exhaust was way too quiet even in sport. Have to try it out again as I read in another thread that sport+ sounds better (exhaust sounds the same in sport and sport+ on the F30). This is just personal, but the interior will take me a lil bit to get used to and that's just from being in an F30 for the past 6yrs. I surprised myself in that even on the short test drive, I found myself using the touch screen which was kinda nice.

To add onto what you said, I have picked up my last 2 cars at the Performance Center. They also give the tires as being one of the reasons for the break-in period. I was always told 1,200 miles. From the PC to home is about 1,000 so it's nice to get most of it out the way in one shot.
The volume is definitely my biggest complaint. I believe it's just better interior noise reduction however. I've heard them while outside and while it's not a screamer, it's definitely not as quiet as a typical V6 mom mobile (and before anyone tries to @me, I'm not implying that the M340i uses a v6 lol).
