Near-death experiences are real and we have the proof, say scientists

A very interesting read:
http://www.newsmonster.co.uk/paranor...cientists.html

How would someone who has never had the gift of sight in all of that persons life be able to describe things people we're doing & saying when that person was dead? This read will definitely open a lot of questions like that.

btw, I know someone who had a near-death experience when she was only 16. She described a very similar picture to what was described in this article. She heard a voice saying you have to go back. When she asked why, the voice said for her son. She didn't have a son till 1 year later.

Just for clarification, dead means no brain activity.

I look forward to hearing all your thoughts....

Of course they're real. If you've almost died then you've been near death?

If you guys haven't had someone close to you go through the same thing then shut up lol. 50 years ago cigarets were believed to be healthy for you. What makes you think that in another 50 years we wouldn't be able to know if there is an after life. My grandpa went through the same thing. While flatlining he heard the conversation of 2 doctors a couple of doors down and when the doctors brought him back to life he was able to tell them word for word what was said. So yah if it wasn't for that i wouldn't believe this stuff either, but its true.

With the woman I know, she died on the operating table. She never told anyone but her doctor for years because she didn't want people to think she was crazy. Her doctor told her this wasn't the first time he heard this story. Near death experiences are real. An afterlife is real.

Didn't mean to offend.

I've been through enough deaths in my life. So much so I'm practically numb. While I didn't flat line, my life was hanging in the balance at 3 years old.

Err, what's the proof? Essentially a bunch of people say there's an afterlife, which happens pretty much every Sunday.

How bout the person who has been blind all his life being able to see?
How about how these stories all have very close similarities?
Do you think all these people who died & came back plotted this?
Read it again. It's very good read indeed.

So some of the research shows that their brains are dead, yet they are still hearing or seeing things. How do we know that the brain activity necessary for this isn't so low that its beyond the measuring capability of the equipment? How do we know when these people had the visions? Maybe its just before their brain shuts down, but they think it was when they were dead?

Or maybe a bit of consciousness sticks around just after death, but that is no guarantee that it doesn't dissipate forever shortly thereafter.

lmao wtf. anyways dude that thing happened to my grandpa over 10 years ago so he didn't make it up. Plus there is no way of making it up since no one else heard it and no one else was in the room with those doctors.

ChrisFastM3, do you understand what "scientific proof" is? If I said I rigorously interviewed 63 2nd graders and 7 of them added 2+2 and got 5, is that proof that it's not 4 like everyone else thinks?

It's a collection of stories, nothing more.

100's of stories.... them seeing themselves in 3rd person is pretty crazy. Its not like all these people we're making it up. What is so hard to believe about an afterlife?

There is a phenomena involving single pilot airplanes during long flights in instrument conditions in which the pilot perceives/hallucinates himself sitting outside of the airplane looking at himself in the cockpit.

And NDE type experiences can be induced by drugs or electrical stimulation of the brain.

Clearly the existence of these near death experiences is not proof in itself that they are what they appear to be. Dr. Parnia has his work cut out for him, both because NDE-like experience can occur when death is not occurring and because extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

So color me skeptical. But this subject is not unlike alien abduction, which a lot of people also sincerely claim to have experienced, in that solid proof would shake our understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe.

What's so hard to believe about Santa? The Easter Bunny? Come to that, why wouldn't Nigerian royalty randomly e-mail people offering them thousands to help them launder money?

The two most common wishes for human beings are immortality and the ability to fly. Our two most common fears? Death, followed by falling and hurting ourselves. One is genetic imperative (self-preservation), one is ingrained in early childhood since the first sharp pain most of us feel results from early falls (or worse, being dropped).

In short, people are always looking for a way to avoid the inevitable - death, gravity, that skin that forms on pudding when you leave it uncovered. That's just how we are.

Hundreds of people havng the same experience, despite cultural differences or being strangers? Most people report having dreams where they feel like they're falling, before jerking awake abruptly before hitting the ground. There's no mystical explanation for it - shared dream state, blah blah. It's part of the human experience because no matter what software we're running, we're all running the same hardware and using the same BIOS.
