Does the G2X still smell like crayons?

I have an F22 that was experiencing some issues, so I had a G22 for a week. It was actually a fantastic, modern car, even if I prefer driving my F22 a bit more.

The biggest sensory experience was coming out of my F22 *thinking* it just smelled like leather conditioner, getting into the G22, then getting back into the F22.

Crayons.

Maybe it's just because my car was baking in the sun so long when it's normally garaged, but I didn't notice crayons at all in the G22. Do these cars still smell like crayons after a few months, or even years? Or has BMW fixed this after all these years?

Hah this is funny. My wife's mom has a 2005 Mercedes C320. It's got like sub-30,000 miles on it because she never drives. However, since day one and to present this is exactly what I think her car smells like inside (crayons). It's not a BMW but I have never heard anyone else make reference to this lol. I know exactly what you mean. Can't help you with the answer directly but my old E60 and my current G30 do not have this smell.

My E39 had a smell like that, but I haven't noticed it in my G20 (built late 2019). Maybe with a certain leather option? I have Sensatec.

Hmm… the G22 had sensatec and my F22 has Dakota leather. Maybe it does make a difference?

I don't know if it smells like crayons per se, but it certainly has that "new car" smell which I actually like. I think it might be outgassing from the leather interior or I should say, the treatment to the interior?

The crayon smell only starts getting worse after a few years. New BMWs usually just smell like German new car smell and leather. After the leather smell fades and all the VOCs go down, the crayon smell will come out.

So the reason you don't smell it on the G22 is only because it's newer. It will eventually smell after a couple years.

I have not noticed the "crayon" smell in mine. If you want to know what it smell like, smell a VW.

I just drove a brand new 2021 430i and all I could smell is the typical new-car-smell of new upholstery.
