Red or Blue Calipers? M340i

Hey gang - Going to be submitting my build for a 2021 M340i and keep going back and forth on one last selection...the blue or red brake calipers! I'll be going shadowline, mineral grey and black rims. What do you guys think? Red or blue?

When I had red calipers I wanted the blue. Now I have blue I want the red.

I had red on my last car and even though I built a 2021 M340. I still chose Blue because I feel red calipers are a little played. Every company seems to have red calipers. I think the Blue looks great with Black so I got Blue and it's not so common

It's not just about colour. The red calipers are a higher spec.

Actually, who am I kidding. of course it's about the colour!

I think it really depends on the color of the car. Once I found out that they were offering the red calipers for MY21, I opted for them since I had chosen Portimao Blue as my color. Red is a wonderful contrast with the blue paint. Blue on blue and as someone above said, it would sort of just get lost. VERY happy with my decision:

To me red callipers match better with mineral grey than blue.
But then red callipers are pretty common (in other brands) and the blue is so typical BMW (to me, non M car)...
I went with the yellow ones on my AW F30 but they aren't offered on the G-series.
Good luck with your choice, whatever you decide it'll look decent

How do you know its higher spec, is that confirmed?

It's not. He's thinking of the upgraded brakes that were offered with larger cross drilled rotors and larger caliper bodies (similar to what was offered in the M Track with oil cooler upgrade). These are just red versions of the standard "M" blue brake calipers.

I opted for red calipers on my mineral grey car. Looks great and gives a but more pop of color than if it were blue. If your car is all blacked out, having that red pop will look sharp, in my opinion.

Mineral grey would go well with red I suppose since it pops. I like blue calipers on both mineral white and black sapphire tho. You can't go wrong with either.

Here in the UK, on the G21/21 the red callipers are definitely higher spec, and cost an additional 350. Perhaps other markets are different.

I don't know whether it's just in the UK or Europe wide.

Just have a play with the configurator - it'll show whether it's true for your market or not.

How hard is it to get them repainted? I want Tanzanite blue for the paint but would love yellow for the calipers.

I did blue breaks on my portimao blue because I had the shadowline and the black rims so the blue pops but mineral gray with the black rims do red for sure!

They're neither "higher spec" nor a "350 option in the UK", and I've no idea why you're saying they are. It's simply a choice whether you want blue or red.

With Mineral Grey I would definitely go red. Yesterday I took delivery of my Oxide Grey 330e Touring, and I chose red.

You're thinking of the M Performance Brakes that happen to come in red as well. They have a larger caliper body but are still 4 piston, and have larger diameter rotors (and are cross drilled). The "red vs blue" choices are simple the standard M Sport brakes that come on all M340i's.

These are the upgraded brakes...

Like I said, here in the UK the standard (on M-Sport models) is the Blue M Sport Braking system (which is a 4 piston design, and an upgrade to the standard grey brakes on the SE model).

For an extra 300 you can get the uprated red brakes, which are four piston front and a single piston floating rear.

We don't get a red option for the blue brakes at all.

I think stuff like this is market dependent. What you're suggesting might be true where you live, but it isn't here.

That picture of the "upgraded" red caliper is NOT the upgraded larger caliper in the M Performance brakes. I can show you a picture of what the larger blue caliper looked like on my upgraded brakes (from the standard blue M Sport calipers).

You really do, and I don't know why you don't just look at the UK configurator instead of posting false information on here and confusing people.

You're getting confused with the 300 M Technology package which is indeed UK specific. However, if you go further down the options you will find that "red high gloss brakes" is also a no-cost option. In fact, the configurator specs the red brakes by default.
