Updates for 3 series this Summer

https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...08710EN/451135

BMW press release re lots of updates to the the whole range.

Most interested in the driving assistance pro updates. I wonder if they will be a software update for existing models? And Android auto at last!

Did I read that right, that they will offer navigation through Android Auto or Apple Carplay in the HUD?? That would be a game changer!

Assuming that is the same implementation as the 5, then yes.

Doubt they will be included in updates as they haven't yet with lane change assist etc

Maybe be a connected drive purchase option though.

The LCI 5 has Apple Maps (or navigation in general) in the HUD? I've watched the overview of the new 5 and 6 and didn't see that. I saw Android Auto becoming standard.

No one will know sadly.

My car is built but stuck due corona so I am hoping some will be a free software update if you have specced it correctly.

Yes it should do, that car will be a MY2021 car. BMW like most manufacturers will have used the covid shutdown to update their lines so they are ready to go when the factory started back up.

Yes.

"The systems are integrated directly in the vehicle's display and control system via a wireless LAN connection between the respective smartphone and the vehicle. Here, the driver can view all the information from the apps or the Control Display and also the navigation directions in the instrument cluster and the optional Head-Up Display".

Also coming are the Phytonic Blue paint as seen on the launch 5 which looks stunning imo. 3ers also coming new design sport seats or at least new design headrests that have an M emboss.

Looking at the changes I believe the new seat options are much more important.

No! On previous thread owners were complaining of the seats being harder than the F30/31. Because of this I upgraded my order to the Merino leather.

My dealer has confirmed by G21 340dx has been rescheduled to Build week 29 which will be MY2021. So hopefully no further lockdowns.

Which is week 29. Mine is due to be built end June?

How does it compare to Portomao blue? Just been on the configurator and looks like there could be alternative M Sport alloys too although website does say configuration options are being updated.

By my reckoning build week 29 is the 20 July.

I agree; I wanted a darker blue and opted to pay the extra for Tanzanite but had it been available as a no-cost colour I'd have gone for Phytonic instead. However, if Phytonic's the only additional colour for the M340i I still think the choice is a bit restricted - the available colours would benefit from a shade of each of silver and red IMO. And yes I do realise you can already have almost any colour you like if you're prepared to pay for it from the Individual range; however, I'm meaning colours that ought to be available without significant additional cost!

ETA: And actually, looking on the configurator Phytonic isn't an option on the M340i anyway - the colour choice for that model looks to be unchanged!

I am wondering if BMW will give me the opportunity to consider any changes to any of the new options prior to my car being built in JULY. Obviously my order, fully loaded was submitted in February.

Our dealerships are scheduled to open this week so hopefully they will be able to clarify the situation.

Views anyone?

My car was ordered via my lease company on 29th January so does the spec change? I’m guessing so as the factory will almost certainly have setup for the 21MY but until the dealer supplying the car confirms details and delivery dates who knows. If they offer a suitable stock car I’d probably take it as it’s a company car so I’m not as concerned with resale values, as long as it is an M-Sport and has the tech pack I’d be happy.

In my experience the specification is only locked-down about a week or so before the car actually goes into build; therefore, if your build date is scheduled for July it should still be spec-changeable. I doubt you'd be able to opt for things that are only going to become available for the 2021 Model Year on a 2020 MY car but if all factory orders are now going to be the new model that's obviously not an issue!

As you say, though, your dealer should be able to clarify the position.

Seems they also removed the possibility of runflats for 18" rims. Curious why are they steering away.

With my previous company cars I have contacted supplying dealer to make a spec change query. The sale rep told me they delayed the release to build so it could fall into next MY. Lease company were unaware and don't really care unless a price change is necessary.
