Wireless Charging Tray

My wireless charging tray gets so hot that it crashes my Android Auto. I've read bits on here about how hot it gets but this is next level. Has anyone any tips or done anything to stop it getting so hot?

I've got a £20 wireless charger that doesn't get anywhere near as hot. I'm tempted to go down to the dealer and see what they can do as I paid around £200 to have this in the car.

I have a wireless charger in my car and it has occasionally overheated my iPhone to the point it turns itself off. A few minutes to cool down and all is good again. This only happens if it's there for a few hours of driving though.

If your phone is in a case try removing it. QI chargers are less efficient (and so generate more heat) if the distance to the phone is increased. Even by a millimetre or so.

It was on a long drive to London but it still shouldn't do that, plus I use Android Auto for maps and music so it's a real pain when it overheats.

We call it “the baking tray”. I tend to keep my phone in a case, the OH doesn’t. It makes no difference, other than the metal parts of the iPhone are too hot to handle after a long charge.

If it any indication we use the wired USB to charge and to sync with the car. Its much faster to charge and seems more reliable. We’re both a bit concerned about the level of heat generated.

My iPhone does this too and locks up when it gets so hot on a long drive, I use other wireless chargers without any problem but I guess CarPlay isn't running at the same time

That could be the problem then, running Android Auto at the same time. Still, you would expect for £200 it would be able to do both!

It's the phone that gets hot not the charger!

Can't be just that (although I do grant you the phone does get hot when using Android Auto) as I had wireless charging in my old car (a Ford Focus) and never had this issue.
