I checked with the dealer, just to be sure, and they have confirmed that I am indeed covered by the long distannce selling regs, and so the 14 day return policy applies.

It's all getting a bit scary now! The funds have now left my account ahead of the dealer sending the car up to me tomorrow evening, and I'll get it on Friday morning.

They have at least updated the idrive to the laterst version at my request, and linked the car to my Connected Drive account, so now I can keep an eye on it on it's way up to me in Scotland.

I've tried to activate the trip recorder via the app, but I'm not sure it will work as a box for accepting some privacy data needs to be checked off in the idrive apparently. Hopefully it will work so I can see what speeds the delivery driver has been doing!

Enjoy the new car today and hope the bodywork repairs were done to your satisfaction. When I bought my current car approved used from Stratstone back in 2014 it was remote buy and then found the lower front bumper had been poorly repainted with overspray, but just went with it and only just had it redone now to sell. Soon forgot about it with the brilliant drive.

So.. Things have not gone as I'd hoped or expected.

Car drives fine and all that, BUT there is a bad stone chip on the bonnet, and another bad one on the front bumper too! And there is a dent in the rear bumper too,m all be it a small one the paint is cracked there.

This should all have been fixed!! So much for being "Immaculate inside and out" (was told that repeatedly)

The salesman just happens to be on a first aid course today, so I cannot speak to him directly, but I will talk to the sales manager as I'm not at all happy about this. Grrrrr!

Did you retain any payment? I assume it was trailered up to you and not driven?

No, retained no payment. Regretting that now. Car was driven up, but they do not look like new chips to me.

Ask for the dealer principal... take it too the top!

Can always reject the car if you are not happy, not ideal

Tell them you are rejecting the car, even if you aren’t. That’ll make them pay attention.

I've just taken video screen captures of the two videos they have sent me of the car before it was sent up. Just in case they remove the links to those videos where they describe the condition of the car as "immaculate inside and out" repeatedly.

I have to say though, I see no chips on the bonnet or the front bumper in those videos, so maybe they have happened on the way up to Scotland, I'm no expert on these things, I would not know how to tell.

The rear bumper ding, the detail of the video clips are not good enough to be able to spot that in either video clip.

For over £45K I'm not ammused!

They are bloody annoying I have to say.....but......depending on what reaction you get from the dealer and depending on whether you choose to accept the car after all the hassle you've had then sorting out the paint chips yourself may be the way forward?

I know it's no consolation but realistically you are entirely likely to 'collect' the odd stone chip anyway in the future, it's a harsh environment out there for the modern soft paint coatings.

If you do keep the car because everything else about it puts a smile on your face then I would recommend getting a touch-up paint kit from Chipex.
I have them for my car (arctic race blue) and for my wife's (alpine white) and can quite categorically say they are the best colour match to the paintwork I've ever had for touch-up paint, way better than BMW's own touch-up paint.
The paint doesn't need lacquer on top it's pre-mixed with the touch-up paint and I've used it to deal with the odd stone chip even on the ceramic coatings of our cars.

How does the door re-paint look?

If they don't offer to have these chips fixed properly, I will be rejecting the car, although the delivery costs there and back are not covered, so I'll be £800 down, plus the road tax etc .... Ahh!!

Agree with Paul. Phone the dealer back and ask to speak to the most senior member if everyone else is out and say that, for the purposes of record and timeliness, you want the person (whose name you take) to note that you intend to formally reject the car under distance-selling regs as not being as described.

Even if you don't actually intend to do it you can guarantee a call first thing Monday.

Has the car got PPF on one of the photos it looks like a clear film (can see the edge of it and lifting)?

Not as far as I'm aware. You mean this ones? That's the rear bumper. EDIT! Oh, I see, it IS some sort of protective film that's lifting. I had not noticed that, I was not wearing my glasses and I need those to see things up close. Ha! I'l go and investigate that right now!

Those are the photos. Looks to be clear film on the boot lip. Does it feel like a film if you run your finger nail over the edge ?

Didn't notice that initially!

Yes, sorry! False alarm on the rear bumper, it's fine, just the protective coating, whatever it is, has been marked and is lifting a bit. Phew!! I could not spot that w/o glasses, I thought that line was just a plastic moulding line under the paint

But the stonchips on the bonnet and bumper... They will not do at all.

I'm pretty sure that under distance selling regs, for "not as described", then the seller has to cover the delivery and return costs.

I may have to fight them on that then, as their T's & C's say different. EDIT:- But then it does not state anything specifically about distance selling as that 14 day money back guarantee applies to all cars... so you might be right!

Was this cash or finance? if finance and you get no joy from the dealer speak to them, they have been known to reject the car on the customers behalf and stop payment.. after all until the last payment is made it is not technically your car, its theres..
