Dealer fees

I just priced out a new 330e on the BMW USA website. The MSRP is around $52k, but I know there's all kinds of fees on the top of that and I know not to pay MSRP either.

But does anyone know what the reasonable amount of fees that are going around for US dealerships right now in the Florida area?
I'm reading some horror stories on markups for stupid stuff like tires and mats and completely useless things.
I understand there's delivery fees, doc fees, and a general dealer fee. Title is already does so I just have a $75 dollar transfer fee for that. Anything else?

I'm about to take delivery on an M340i in AZ - Most dealers around here just add on doc fee(600) + tint(500). Some of them will also attempt to add on some nonsense lo-jack/vehicle locate crap, but you can likely negotiate it out if you are ordering new.

I would recommend shopping around to different dealers within your area until you get one that will agree to an out the door price before taking your order so that you aren't surprised.

I called around and they seem rather reasonable for inflation.
It adds up to about $1600-1800. One dealership wants to add a Star Guard anti theft device as "standard procedure" for another $1000.
Now the issue is becoming the price.

I called one dealer and they want to sell me the car for full MSRP. Is that standard now? I guess I'll start another thread for that.

It's definitely market dependent, but I would aim for between 5-10% off MSRP - I was able to get 4 myself back in December.

I was very direct in simply calling dealerships, stating I wanted an allotment for X% off MSRP. If they weren't willing to do that I simply ended the call and moved on. Eventually I got a callback from someone willing to do what I was asking.

I wasn't opposed to driving ~8 hours to pick it up so that obviously increased my options.

I actually just started a new thread on this. Turns out it has something to do with it being an online build.

Sounds like they're feeding you some garbage - I had a dealer agree to 4% off MSRP + any incentives available upon delivery.

Mine was also an online build.

Just when we think we heard every line possible. I guess they have no shame.

Most luxury brands are a lot better with dealer addons and fees. Try buying a honda or ford, those dealers are a lot shadier.

Florida has one of the highest doc fees in the country (I think it’s up to $1000 now) which is completely arbitrary.

*I should say allows, but dealers will almost always tag on the maximum allowable doc fee in each state.

In Florida the law has been interpreted that dealers are not allowed to reduce their fees as part of negotiations so saying no means you won’t get the vehicle.

Do you have a source for that "interpretation"? That is 100% contrary to consumer protection. That said, tell them to take $1k off because you won't pay a doc fee. They would lose a deal over it.

Not following your line of thinking as all customers are treated the same and business are generally allowed to set pricing but doesn't really matter. As you said, you can try and negotiate the price lower to make up for it.

Here are few articles that mention it:

"If a dealer charges a dealer fee, you can’t just ask for it to be removed. That’s because they’re legally not allowed to take it off the invoice. if they choose to make fees part of the sales process, they have to charge them, and charge every customer."

https://mullinaxfordfl.com/blog/the-...on-dealer-fees

"Strange as it may seem, Florida law prohibits a dealer from removing the dealer fee from the price he gives a customer. If he charges one person a dealer fee, he must charge all people"

http://oncars.blogspot.com/2007/04/l...e%20the%20fee”.

Agree with above, if you ask them to remove a doc fee they will just say no. No point in asking anymore. Just ask for more off MSRP/asking price.

I bought the same car on Nov. 2022 in Orlando FL, I will post the exact fees I had on mine when I get home later today. The price for the car back then was lower than it is now but I paid MSRP, I think you might be able to play with that (it depends on the dealership).

The car now is at least $2,800 more expensive than before so Idk if that affect the fees I paid.
