Also no need to press unlock button when doing y turns from reverse to drive etc. As mentioned above the trans software needs to be updated as I can not shift into "S" mode. I will need to figure out how to do that. larrylam646 any information on how you upgraded trans software so the s mode works?

My m340 is fully loaded so I had to purchase a shifter from Europe that had all the buttons and I still care about the engine start stop button

Yes it is possible, plug and play actually. Many people have done it and I’d be happy to direct you to the Facebook group for more info where I found this info out

You are going to need that.
If you ever need work on the car done, it will be impossible for BMW to program it

ISTA does a calculation of vehicle parts based on your build date and factory order.

They shifter is out of scope, as it’s been replaced, which means they will not be able to program the car.

So say for example , your body domain controller, or your ecu or camera, or anything breaks ( it’s REALLY common) , and needs fixing, they won’t be able to without replacing the shifter first.

Better to hold on to it, and swap it back before any work.

You will also have issues selling the car too

JackMK, would very much appreciate more information on this, I want to buy a new M340 but I can't live without center shifter because I steer with left hand and shift with right. I'm only getting an automatic because manual is not available.

Feel free to PM me, I can't initiate PM because I am new to forum.

Hey,

could someone please share the part number of this gear selector but as the LCI version?

It should have the buttons as in the attached image, but not be the glossy variant

Also regarding the software issues, can someone confirm that that is in fact an issue for retrofitting the LCI model to a pre-LCI car?

There is no adaptive button on the LCI version, so you lose the ability to press that button !

@ramparts Just a few posts above there is a picture of one having the adaptive button?

Do you know if there is really a problem software wise when going to the BMW repair shop?

This is the shifter for the g20. No adaptive button and it’s not gloss black.

That shifter posted is for a different gXX car. It’s possible to retrofit both, but as the HWEL ( hardware version ) is for a different platform, it’s going to be more involved flashing it then simply changing your manufacture date. You’ll need a donor FA similar to whatever car it came from and then just flash that module.

Hm okay, so basically I would forever lose the possibility to use the "adaptive" mode? Not sure what it does anyways, so I don't think I would miss it

Could you explain the software difference a bit more please? If I choose the G20 version, would that mean it's working out of the box and NO problems at the BMW repair shop, whereas if I chose the other car's part with the adaptive button it would result in problems?

I've got a RHD pre-LCI shifter for sale in the classifieds section, perfect condition if anyone is interested. It's located in Australia, but I could arrange shipping internationally at cost.

LCI to Pre-LCI

Anyone have updates on reverting back from LCI shifter paddle to Pre LCI shifter handle? Leasing 2024 X5 and wanting to switch back to handle. I would assume they make some sort of handle that would fit/clamp over the paddle but I’m new to it all. Also new to the site and forums.
I found a dealer online with a 300.00. 4 piece crystal handle/adapter/knob/start stop button. He says it doesn’t need coding and it’s the only thing I can find online to switch back.
Any help would be appreciated!
Below is a pic of my gear selector module.

Hello,

I’m new to the forum. Been driving a 2020 g20 330e for the past 3 years and 50K km, with great pleasure.

I bought and retrofitted a used LCI shifter. It was plug and play and all functions work properly, except S-mode.

Has anyone managed to get S-mode working on a retrofitted LCI shifter? I would like to know what coding/flash is needed. Any help is appreciated!
