Quick rundown on the definite things I’ve picked up on;

- No more clunkiness with 1-2 shifts in S3. Smooth and fast, with enough umph to make it feel special.

- Very nice deep pop between shifts, sport+ in either D or S. I do have a single midpipe.

- Start up roar. It’s much more aggressive and sounds killer.

- I’m now finding myself driving more in D3 than S3. Car seems wittier on when to shift and let revs hang.

- Burbles are toned down a bit, but sound much deeper and grown up, if that makes sense.

- ALL shifts, either 1/2 throttle or WOT are noticeably quicker, especially at/near redline.

I did a run from a stand still… D3, MDM, somewhat warm tires, no LC, and I was literally lol’ing as she climbed through the gears.

This update seems very engine/transmission focused, yet none of that language was in the description. Either way, it’s a blast driving. Everything just feels so different and new, more peppy, more DCT-like.

For context, I have put about 17k miles on my G80. It’s one of the first cars in my state, and I’ve put it through the ringer. So, lots of seat time on the old software. A few things I’ve been complaining about have been resolved. My G80 does have an Armaspeed intake and Supersprint mid pipe, no other engine work or tunes.

A light bulb went off in my head when a buddy who just bought a ‘23 M4C told me the car shifts great and feels incredible. Sure enough, he’s already on this software, or maybe even newer.

Anyways, I’m a broken record at this point. Lots of other stuff listed in the update, but no idea what those are… don’t really care.
Fascinating. I haven't driven the car hard enough to notice any of this (winter in Canada). When you say DCT like was this in MDM mode only? I have driven the car pretty much since new in sport+ engine mode. I love it and can't drive the car otherwise but have rarely used MDM.

Got this updated about a month ago at dealership. The only thing that seems to be better is the snappier shifts. Definitely don't notice any extra pops or burbles, but that with valves control set to permanently open, and ASD coded off

Hopefully you've updated by now, but I did yesterday. It took a good 30-45 minutes to move the update from my phone to the car. You can drive when it's going. After it's done uploading to the car, it will prompt you to park it to continue, then you have to leave it parked for a good 20-30 minutes. You'll see a progress bar very faintly on the 'middle' screen. Your car will not start once it starts updating.

Love your color btw

I finally got it! Doesn’t seem much different by my appraisal but glad I got it to work.

Thank you dude! I love that red too!! Nearly went red myself. It was definitely on my short list.

Do these updates just randomly appear in the app or in the car? I ask because I have 22’M3 Comp xDrive and I’m still on 11/2021.36.

Check for the update in the my BMW app. Download to your phone. Upload inside your car (takes a painfully long 30+ minutes). Then, you’ll need to be parked for about 20 mins and the update will occur once software uploaded to your car.

Just curious. Has anyone had the update availability show up in their car as opposed to on their phone? I do not have a "smart phone" (don't want one). In the past they have showed up in the car, but apparently not this time.

Yes, mine did. You can also ask your car to search for an update. Did you try that yet?

Noticeable difference in sound

There is definitely a noticeable change in sound on start up. Much louder. It is even more aggressive (in comfort mode) on shifts (I haven't had the chance to in Sport yet). The resetting of M1 and M2 was a little annoying though.

Are these updates only for cars in MY21 and MY22? I got a MY23 and its ID8 and doesnt have the option of checking for software update in myBMW app. Just to update automatically and download via Wi-Fi. Its weird that the start up sound is much better with the ASD is on (greenlight is on) vs when I turn it off. Is that what the others are seeing.

Okay; help me out. I picked the car up from dealer the other day and noticed some stuff was different. Figured the car updated. But maybe it wasn’t THE update?

I’m 2023 m3. ID8. Says I am current at 07/2022.33 but I am seeing others with 07/2022. ## higher numbers than 33

What’s the LATEST update? Is this it?

Only in MDM, yes. I can tell a difference while toggling MDM.

If it was updated by the dealer, it would be 11/2022.##
I had mine done while it was there last month and they installed 11/2022.38

Hmm. That’s weird. When I got it back the climate controls and stuff were different.

I wonder when I’ll get the 11/22. I also wonder what caused the change from when I picked it up.

So 11/22.38 is the newest? Sorry for all the questions.

This makes complete sense. I remember the first OTA update that came out for the G8x, summer of 2021. The people that did the OTA update had a different number from the people that had theirs updated at the dealer (during service).

Okay. Thank you. Glad I’m not sounding like a crazy person. Lol. I got the car in October of 22. So I guess it got some update at dealer last week cause stuff was different. But still not “the” update? Canes was dealer updated and 11/22.xx if mine was, shouldn’t it be 11/22?

This is fascinating to read about. Now I'm wondering what changes there are between 07/2022.50 and .58! My M4cx (prod date. 2022-10-19) came with the former. Coming from a 2020 M550i, the shifts definitely felt far more brutal (1-to-2 on S3 even under low load especially so), so knowing this was in fact possibly a recent software improvement is crazy.

Just got out of break-in territory as of last weekend and have maybe 5 seconds of WOT on it so far. Can't wait to see how snappy it gets under full load.

Thanks. I just checked the app and it still shows “no update available”.

Just my assumption really. If your car is an auto, you should be able to hear a chug/pop during shifts in sport+. This can definitely be an indicator if your software is the same as what we’re all talking about.
