Looks stunning. Love the leather colour.

On stopping the steering wheel going shinny, ease off the hand cream

Interesting, can't say I've seen better than mid-30's out of mine although to be fair I haven't done many long runs; however, even when I have it's not been over 35mpg. Perhaps it just needs to loosen-up a bit - it's only just clocked 4k miles - although having said that my experience with previous new cars has been the mpg doesn't really change much as the mileage increases. Out of interest how many miles has your car done?

Interested to hear what your thoughts are.

I'm slightly nervous of going from an SUV to a "smaller" vehicle and whether I'm going to miss the space and practicality.

I came from a Q7 and was surprised how big the boot is. The main difference is the boot depth as you could also move the seats forward on the Q7. Rear legroom is very good.

Enjoying being able to fit in a parking space without 2ft of the car sticking out!

Not missing the X5 at all. Have done about 150 miles since collection just by inventing reasons to go out.

Both my kids play ice hockey, but at different age groups so it's rare that we will have to get both sets of kit in the car at the same time, and the older one now drives anyway, so the worst case is occasionally having to take 2 cars.

IF our government ever allows them to play again

Current 3 doesn't seem that much smaller than my F10 5 series was.

It was barely off the lot at that point, I think about 1800 miles? Its a Mar 2020. Also keep in mind that was 12 hours of lagely continuous Mway She's on 7k now. Did a big run yesterday, mid thirties. In Sport Plus, around town, she's thistier and I get mid 20s - but overall, its pretty ridiculous for a twin turbo S6.

I test drove the 340i and although it is an excellent engine and really fun to drive, it really comes to life only above 4k RPM. Below that I have the feeling it lacks the punchiness of a Diesel engine. Torque on the D is insane at 700nm, and it might feel quicker on everyday's driving. However there's none available in my area and I have no chance of test driving it.
Any input would be really appreciated!
Hi Coptico ive just taken delivery of M340D around a month ago now and clocked up just over 1500miles, previous to this had an M140i which i did 50k miles in 2 years. As other's have said in this post it all depends on what type of driving experience you want. The B58 engine is a peach smooth,Economical and powerful when you wind it round to 7k revs but it really needs 3.5k revs for it to move. The 340D on the other hand is the complete opposite, oodles of grunt from tickover but the torque and power start to tail off once you rev it past 4k.It ultimately comes down to your own personal preference Diesel has more torque and better MPG the petrol likes revs and sounds lovely all the time.

Hi Pablo, thanks for reporting your impressions, appreciated! I had a chance to drive a 540d and I agree with what you said, anyway I think I’ll go for the petrol as my mileage is relatively low and overall it is more fun to drive. If mileage was an issue I would still be happy with the 340d!

I had a test drive of the M340d Touring over the weekend and what a hugely impressive piece of kit it is, huge grunt and effortless performance.

No regrets ordering the M340i Touring but test driving the M340d did make me wonder if I've chosen correctly, it's that good!

On a side note, my son test drove the M135i and ordered one as a result so hoping for a double handover on the same day

Great choice for both of you. My son has an M140i to match my M340i, although I always remind him I have more horsepower! My wife now has a 128ti so a definite BMW family.

I love diesels. Had an e36 325tds for 5 years, then an e39 530d touring for 10 years and then an e61 535d for 8 years (before moving to petrol). I love the torque. But to me the decision was made up because of the anti diesel politics (even worse than petrol).

The latest generation of the b58 with MHT is awesome, and a step forward over the previous version I had in my 440i. Low down grunt is significantly improved, and it never feels wanting.
Fuel economy is unreal, but when comparing with others you really need to think about the terrain you live in. I live near Newmarket where it is pretty much flat. To work and back is all fast A roads at around 60-70(ish) and I'm averaging 37-38 mpg in the first 900 Miles of its life.
When I visit my family in Yorkshire, I expect from experience that this will be reduced to around 31-33 mpg due to the hills and much more frequent acceleration and breaking.

I’ve just ordered an M340i MHT

I considered the diesel, great engines and does kind of make sense in a 3 series Touring (I’ve driven Mercs 400d version)

Unfortunately I’m a petrol head at heart and chasing that redline never ever gets boring for me, so after taking the 340i out and running it out through a few gears I didn’t even bother trying the diesel - not interested!

I was just curious on how the 700nm of the D would feel, but then you lose all the high rpm fun.
Maybe the petrol is still better overall (except mpg)
On the motorway sitting at 70mph, MPG in the high thirties is easily possible.
Agreed. My 40i can be so wonderfully placid, poised there at 70 (or thereabouts!). It hardly nudges 2k rpm and if you're disciplined with the right foot, I think you get excellent economy. I say this having stepped up from a 330i, a car that felt like it habitually needed to rev more to achieve the same motorway performance and manoeuvrability--and could be thirsty in its own right. Another reason why the i can contend with the d, unless you're doing a leviathan of a daily commute.

What an engine the latest M340i has. Mine has clocked 1000 Miles today so I've was extending it a little on the way back from golf tonight. Jesus it is quick. I mean like wow quick. Why anyone would need a car any faster than this is beyond me. Smirk inducing in the extreme. Driving the car in sport individual, it has just so much more down grunt, but extend the engine up towards 5500 rpm and just wow.
As you can tell I'm impressed with what BMW have delivered here.
If anyone is in any doubt, get yourself a test drive now before we are all driving electric hairdryers...

I wasn't suggesting the Tesla. I said "as rapid as" one.
