M branded carbon fiber retractable sail on top of the roof will achieve more practical results: - Verifiable increase in range with automatic retraction before overpasses - More profitable option with carbon fiber materials - Proposed logo, M-GT-MM8S or More Galavanting for Mere Mortals with 8 foot Sail, will create a vibrant secondary eBay market as these logos will be removed by enterprising individuals at night Or - offering wheels which make the car more appealing sounds like a better option. |

It looks ridiculous.
BMW are loosing the plot with their design, there's no cohesive design language. Compare this effort with the Taychan and e-tron GT, they're in a completely different league. Sure, they're quite different cars, but still. This looks like a bland family car with a bunch of weird aftermarket parts designed by a 12-year old manga fan. |

Everything wrong with BMW Design is present in this product
I can't stand the looks of this thing. It really summarizes all that's gone wrong with BMW Design starting with the advent of the i3 and i8.
The use of blue accents to denote "future tech" is so...immature. This design detail was "inspired" by the iMacs of ~2000, and is the farthest thing from elegant, considered design. "Quick, how will people know this is the future?!?!" "Easy, we'll put some high-tech light blue accents all over it." Blech. Lazy! Naive! And truly horrible looking. It already looks dated. The grill....has been examined and commented on repeatedly, and still looks terrible here. Stop. With. These. Aero. Wheels. They look like complete ass, and do *very little* to add to the efficiency of these cars. INSTEAD PUT THAT EFFORT INTO DESIGNING A BETTER LOOKING CAR. This is by far the worst looking EV to come from any and all of the OEMs. BMW is so far off the path they don't even remember there was one. |

I cannot believe I'm saying this but the front looks better than the back...and the non M-Sport looks better all around. I was excited for this to be my first EV but somehow it's done the opposite of "growing on me".

Not a fan of the lines/curves or lack thereof. The car doesn't look nimble. Couple that with the grill and the rims... 🤢

I'd expect BMW to sell a majority of the first examples to their core customers A loyal BMW customer may not consider cross shopping Tesla Model 3 initially After the initial reviews it's a completely different ball game I expect they're prepared to complete I am hopeful accordingly

I don't understand why almost every EV comes with ugly ass wheels. why do they have to make them so .... solid/blob-ish looking. they can't just put normal wheels on EVs?

I think these early effort EVs will age really badly. The designers are desperately hanging on to fossile fuel design elements (grilles / exhausts / air intakes) because they don't have the vision to draw a car without them. It's a bit embarrassing imo. Even more weird is that BMW have picked this time, a time of rapid transition from fossile to electric, to introduce a range-spanning huge grille. A grille they apparently want to build their whole design around. I don't get it.
I think it looks really cool on the new M cars, don't get me wrong. It's all the other cars it looks stupid on. But on an EV it's even worse, it sticks out like a sore thumb. In a few years cars won't have grilles and BMW will need to go back to the drawing board again and find a new core element. It's incredibly short sighted. If you debadge any Mercedes for example, everyone will still be able to instantly see it's a Merc. That's because they have a clear design philosophy and a red thread running through their whole range. Sadly, the same can't be said for BMW, they're all over the place. If you debadge this i4 and take away that stupid grille, it might as well be a Ford or some Japanese car. Doesn't even look premium to me to be honest, it looks old fashioned and cheap. The new BMW interiors are better though. Even if you could argue that some of the points I'm making above about exterior design are true on the inside as well, at least they look and feel good. But Audi and Mercedes both have more identity in their interiors. If BMWs are still better driving than the competition, I'll still consider one for my next car. That's the most important thing to me. But I wish they would get their excrement together design wise. |
