Orange light doesn’t bother me as the air/climate fan speed lights are also in Orange. I don’t really notice it

Quick update, for some reason, and it was not doing this before, but steering intervention seems to stay off now even when restarting the engine.

Going to continue to monitor it, but the last few times when I've checked, the box has been unticked.

Hoping this remains the case.

Do you still get the warning message that it'll be re-enabled? Also was there a reasonable amount of time between 'uses' of the vehicle or was this all part of one longer journey?

I've not experienced this lane assist thing. In what scenarios is it dangerous? I am assuming that the car is intervening aggressively when it shouldn't do?

My experience was that it kept pulling me towards the curb/center divider after going through some intersections so I had to turn it off after that.

Thanks. That sounds like far more trouble than it's worth . I guess it has its place if a driver was falling asleep at the wheel but I wouldn't want the car second guessing situations and dragging me into the kerb because it thinks it knows better.

I wonder if accidents have been caused by this.

The warning message is still there.

There was reasonable time between uses. It kept re-enabling overnight for example, but now it stays off.

I'm guessing that is a bug, but either way the result is what you want..

Steering Intervention

Might keeps coming on. I have a 2021 M340i and even in my profile where i have set the lane assist to off and unticked the steering intervention box (which stays as programmed every time i swtich the engine on, the green circle is still there and the intervention still happens.

If I untick the functions, idrive tells me that the functions will be re-enabled when I restart the engine, which of course it does.

Do I have to turn this off manually everytime I get in the car like you need to do with auto start/stop?
Make an appointment with the Genius at your dealership.
He should be able to give you the definitive answer.

You can’t turn it off permanently other than by coding.

It would be good if you could post photos of the config along with build date and current software version.

You know which codes it is?

I have a suspicion but if you already know will save me some time

I don't want to turn it off, just curious

No I read it somewhere but didn’t take a huge amount of notice as the whole thing doesn’t bother me. Even though it turns on each time it remembers the level of intervention so I just set that to the least intrusive and forget about it.

Just turn steering intervention off and leave it enabled and it stays green.
Most annoying feature ever. Almost had me off the road. Still surprises me on every journey.

On my 2021 G21 I have to turn it all off manually each trip by holding down the button below the vents for about 3 seconds. Not a big deal and far better than letting Big Brother kerb my alloys or pull me back into the path of a tractor. “Take back Control” I say- I’ll get me coat.

why not just use the indicators? seems a simple enough solution.

Only problem with that is it turns everything off. I'm happy to keep the non-intrusive safety systems active. The way mines set, only the steering intervention is off and I've not noticed any of the other systems that are active.

It is annoying if you are safely straight-lining S bends.

I agree with others above, this feature is on the whole far more dangerous than useful.
It’s not clever enough to know sometimes when you have an obstacle, say a parked car or a traffic calming chicane etc. on your left, when you steer right it’s nearly always not clever enough to understand this type of scenario and is dragging you back to the left, towards the very thing you are turning away from - outright dangerous.

I too am a permanent red circle of shamer!

The only times I ever enable it are if I’m on a long motorway drive and perhaps there is a chance I could start getting tired... not to be confused with I would drive whilst tired and rely on it!... but I will enable it say towards the back end of a long, late motorway drive... which would be rare under normal circumstances and absolutely never in lockdown.

Yes - Lots of construction in my area and the car picks up on the old paint lines and wants to put me through a concrete divider. Found myself fighting the steering on multiple occasions. Not to mention the lane assist seems to kick in when I'm smack in the middle of the lane. My wife's 2019 Jetta has the same feature that is much more refined and "safe"... Still not a fan. I turned mine off without any issues or extra coding needed (US based).

I have DAP, and I've only noticed this stuff kicking in when I have driving assistance turned on.

But I do tend to indicate whenever I manoeuvre, so perhaps that's what's stopped me from finding it,
