Had a look at the M340i. Didn't bother going to see the diesel. Was leaning towards petrol anyway as the way the uk is going this could be the last chance to own a good old fashioned 6 cylinder petrol engine....

Deal done. Collect it Thursday.

Not too worried about the leather. As I don't wear jeans in the car that much and will keep on top of it with regular cleaning.

Will do.

Decent spec.

Black with ivory white extended leather

Tech pack
Comfort pack
Visibility pack

Guessing/hoping the fuel consumption won't be that much different to the x5

I was torn between the Petrol and Diesel, the latter gets fabulous reviews for performance and range but for the same reason as ScottC25, I saw this as a last opportunity to bag one of the best 6 cyl petrol engines currently out there.

Unlike ScottC25 though, couldn't find a stock vehicle in a spec that I liked so having to wait until the latter part of June for delivery!

It's not exactly what I'd choose, but happy enough and the deal was good so just went for it.

I'd have had sunburst orange and a sunroof if I was doing a factory order

Glad you got the deal done. Looking forward to the pics!

I went from a 2011 X5 40d to a 2016 Q7 30 (272hp) to the M340i. My average has remained mid to low 20’s throughout!

I guess there’s a bit of a benefit with petrol being a few pence cheaper per litre too.

I do drive mainly in sport though, so I reckon the M340i is capable of a higher average MPG.

Pics....haha, that'll be a challenge but I'll do my best.

The 40d is a great car, all round practical and can do most of you want but it's not exactly exciting to drive.

Having just picked up an M235i for the wife made the decision to get rid of the X5 early much easier!

Thursday can't come quick enough.

They are great cars. Take it for a spin up dukes pass when you get the chance.

M40D over the M40I everyday in my opinion. I have an X3 M40D and never once wished I was in the petrol. it is very much each to there own.

Both are fabulous engines, best of the best. Whether your in the i or the D you have one the of best engineered packages available today. Both have ample power and torque, great gearboxes, both can be classed as the best all round.

For me the D wins as it suits my driving style more, i much prefer the torque over power, easy get mid 40's on a run, mid 30's town. 500miles min per tank. You would guess the M340D would be a few up on this over the X3. To me the D sounds great in sports mode, fake yes, but i am fine with this.

My first car was a 1.6 Ford Focus. These cars are 20 years apart and its amazing how far things have developed. I now have a 2 ton barge that has more then 3 times the power and gets better MPG - still makes me smile every time i fill up (which is rare)

You're absolutely right, both are great cars. I'm still not sure which one to get, the 700nm of the diesel are really attractive to me!

Well, decision has been made now, and given the way the M235i we just bought drives, I'm sure its going to be fine.

Changing the subject slightly, any tips on keeping the steering wheel in its slightly matt/rough finish, to stop it all going shiny?

I find that something like Autoglym leather cleaner works just fine, work in with a microfibre and remove any excess with a spare clean cloth.

My car has 70k on the clock now, when I use the above method it comes up pretty good.

I second this - used AG leather cleaner for years, and keeps the wheel and seats in great condition.

Dodo juice supernatural leather cleaner.

Read some of the reviews - always comes out as the winner.

Great stuff, I’ve used it for years.

Thanks folks, figured I'd make an attempt at maintaining the steering wheel this time around, as the one on my X5 is mega shiny!

Collection day today, lunchtime can't come quick enough.

Nice sunny day for the drive back from Edinburgh as well!

Collected and driven home.

Hugely impressed so far.

Thought I might miss the X5 but that's very unlikely.
