When will G20 production restart?

Hey guys,

I want to purchase an M340i, but inventory in the NY tristate area is barely existent, and dealerships aren’t taking orders. Anyone have know when the factories in Germany and Mexico will reopen?

Thanks.

I'm curious too, but you should try another dealer. I was still able to place an order this week and have a production number.

Didn't they say factories in Germany reopen April 19th?

I believe Mexico is closed until April 19th. My 330i has been in “production begins” status since March 20th and the latest info has it being completed on April 22nd. We shall see if that holds up.

Both factories are scheduled to open April 19th. A couple days ago BMW announced that the Spartanburg plant closure is being extended until April 30th, so hopefully no news is good news for the Mexico and euro plants.

Was hoping not to see that news, but I'm not surprised. No sense in rushing the reopening.

Brutal.

Curious as to whether BMW will be aggressive or conservative with incentives when dealerships reopen?

Curious about that as well. MF dropped this month but so did residuals so lease deals didn't get much better. I guess we will see how BMW reacts in the next couple months.

Keep in mind that while we've had an immense amount of demand destruction, the supply has likewise been constrained due to factories being closed.

Just put my order in today so I'm hoping the open soon. When they're ready they're ready I guess. I'd rather wait then have them rush to open and spread the rona around .

Did they even have an estimate of when your build would start? Still quoting MY 2020 builds?

Anyone can give you a production number. Most dealers are not taking orders because they have zero ideas when those orders will be built.

Mercedes and VW have announced that they’re going to reopen production in Germany as soon as tomorrow. Plants have been retooled to have a min 1.5 meter gap between employees. BMW was part of the call with the Chancellor but hasn’t announced a date yet. I presume they have permission but it couldn’t hurt for them to take a wait and see approach.

Sounds like BMW is preparing to reopen plants, but still sticking to the closure through the end of April. Still good news though, at least they're not looking at extending the closures.

That's good news but would the orders placed in march hit production as soon as the plant opens?

No idea. I placed my order in March, but last time I checked I was slated for a mid-June build. With that being said, my build status went from "Production Scheduled" back to "Order Received" and has stayed there this time. (It's gone back and forth a couple times through all of this) Makes me think they were waiting this out to see when they reopen to finally reschedule production. Maybe when they reschedule production, the build will be moved forward, but who knows...

I've been working with a few SA's and negotiating a new build, they're all hesitant to give more than 5% off right now as they don't expect approval from management as they wait to see what BMW offers in new incentives (for consumers and dealers). This particular dealership have been lead to believe that BMW will have some significant incentives in May/June and are recommending I wait. It's rare they don't close a deal with someone willing so I'm hoping there is some truth to this.

Interesting. I figured it may take a little while for them to assess the situation and adjust. Can't say I'm surprised that April wasn't much better than March in terms of incentives. Let's hope your dealership is right!

I was quoted for a 2020 build. The information I got from my dealer as of a few days ago that plants are due to reopen April 30 and he thinks I'm looking at a 10 week build time.

We'll see, I'll post here as I get updates

That's not too hateful. Interested to hear what you hear moving forward.
