That horizontal body panel of-some-sorts that breaks up the grille allowing for a spot to put the plate, really makes a difference in appearance. It seems to be on the last 3 mules and it makes the grilles less dramatic, in a good way. I am going to wait until full reveal to make any judgments on the grilles.

The rest of the car looks great and I will buy one due to (6MT+4door) combo.

There is nothing to compete with this car, possibly the Golf R MK8, but if you love 6MT and need 4doors this is the ultimate car in the current environment....

the M3 fascia (both in sedan and coupe) was based off of the coupe front fascia... this is the same for the F8x generation which is based off of the F32 (which you had mentioned), as well as the E90/E92 M3 sedan and coupe (E90 shared the same E92 front end).

it’s nothing new and the G8x is supposed to follow suit. you shouldnt be expecting otherwise.

I love everything I'm seeing lately except for the G20 tail lights. Don't worry, I don't think they look anything like a Lexus, but they are incredibly lame and uninspiring in every way. They would also look especially out of place with the dramatic front end that is coming.

The bucket seat option has to be my favorite feature. The grab handle built into the thigh bolster is pure genius!! Good job here, BMW.

Looking like two pitchforks. Out of all the automobiles in the BMW lineup, they had to mess with the 3 & 4, thanks.

It's definitely not the real production kidney's in terms of the actual design of the slats, but it does provide further evidence [for the hold-outs] that the tall/vertical grilles are here.
The 4 series concept is the clearest indication that the tall grill is here to stay. Very disappointed by that design language

I'm embracing the new design language. It's growing on me. I've been thinking about personalized license plates. I think "OINK" is the winner.. Maybe, "OINKOINK"

The only thing that will bisect the front grill is the plate mount. This has been confirmed numerous times. There's no "body panel".

The F80 ///M3 ended up being wider than the F82 ///M4, so there's precedent for that continuing with the G8X.

Absolutely agree, I guess I'll get used to the big grille one day (and who knows, maybe I will even prefer it after a certain time), but I just can't stand the tail lights. They are so boring and they actually don't even look modern. Sure, they'll improve them with the LCI as always, which will drive me crazy of course (in case I'll buy the M3). It may be the reason why I could buy the M4 this time.

And it goes even further back than that.
The E90 M3 is shorter (by 1.4 inches), taller (by 1.2 inches) and wider (by 0.5 inches) than the E92 M3 and E93 M3.

too bad I am not playing their reindeer games..... as far as I am concerned.. they can put LONGHORNS on the front of their prototype... I will simply wait for the finished product before making any decisions on how I think it looks.

yeah no. this post was too logical and level headed for me.

we’re supposed to be enthusiasts. we should be raiding BMW headquarters with torches and pitchforks in hand demanding they bring back the E30 and E46 and make nothing else because they are the greatest cars of all time and BMW have lost their way. over and over again.

The correct decision and the right answer.

Is it possible this is a ploy to create buzz and conversation? Regardless of negativity we are all taking about it and staying tuned. Then they finally reveal a more traditional design?

If you mean the tall and large grills it is way too late to test the waters. The 4 series is to be launched in spring so there is no time to adapt the design to the response to a test concept.

The concept would have to be a complete decoy to the production car if the production car is going to look traditional and what will BMW gain from that? I can only see loss of trust from a move like that rendering future model specific close to launch concepts meaningless.

The waters of this design was tested long time ago with the Vision cars ( Next and dynamics) and as I recall the response to those were largely positive...
