IMHO G30 vs G20 looks

Exterior
5er>3er

Interior
5er<3er

I also believe pictures differ from reality, so I can't wait to see the G20 in person. I remember not liking the G30 in pics, but once I saw and drove the M5, I was smitten.

A lot of you speak based on emotion and are frankly haters.

This new 3-series is well-differentiated from the 5er. Front, rear, inside, doesn't matter. It's got it's own distinct look. If they get the driving dynamics even close to the Giulia this it be the best in class for years to come.

Now the 5 and the 7? That's an issue. The 7er looks nowhere near as expensive as it should for that price. It's no wonder they can't give them away!

I find the new M5 to be very handsome but agree that if it's not in a shade of blue only a car enthusiast can tell the difference.

It's definitely got a more muscular appearance than the average 530 driven by every dad in town.

Really? I think the only times 3er looked more like smaller 5er was in pre-e90 age.
This must be some fake news here. A campaign to start everyone salivating about the new 3er. Just think about it, only a couple years ago they were saying how great f30 was.
Anyway after having e90 3er and now f80 M, I must say, it feels Bmw is not making enough to make the 3er what it was. I start to believe people who for years were saying 3er is going away from the bad boy image (read sporty and aggressive) to 'hey let's sell this car to women and children'. That virtual cockpit will get old real quick, the looks and design will get contested by rivals of AUDI MB and others, and BMW will feed us with LCI which at that point will be better than such a great car the version 1 supposedly is.
What a rant you may say. I know. I just want them to build good cars (sporty and aggressive) and stop 'winning' based on better idrive and history because that doesn't last long....

I'm actually really happy they did this. It's nice to see them bring unique design attributes and features to the model lineup, but also consistent design language to the brand.

I was hoping it wouldn't be the same generation of slimmed down 7 -> 5 -> 3, with the main differentiators being size, weight, and latest tech. It's sometimes challenging for me to identify the differences in exterior styling (front view) between the G30 and G11 when going down the highway.

I'll be honest, with a growing family, my next car would likely have been a 5, but I think I can talk myself back into the sportiness of the 3, and have the X5 continue to be the family hauler.

For me personally, I never thought the F30 had a close resemblance with the F10 5-Series.

Someone said the E90 and E60 had shared visual cues and I tend to agree with that.

Was it also purposely designed to look uninspired, generic, and drab as well?

They look more similar than the F series or the last couple of E gens. It's like we're back in the same boxy different size days
