BMW is no longer including headlight washers?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I noticed that my G01 doesn’t have headlight washers, or the option, and looking at all the pictures of the new X5, none of those have headlight washers either. Has BMW dropped them from the lineup?

Edit - I’ve just looked at some pictures of the current 5 series, and they don’t have them either.

So why has BMW dropped headlight wash from all their cars?

They are only required for Xenon lamps, for LEDs they are not included.

Why? Do LED headlights not get dirty?

Yup! Me too. No washers or parking sensors. Nice clean bumpers.

I really like having the headlight washers, especially in the winter.

I’ve used mine twice. Once to see what they do. The second time was to make sure they were still working.

In the hierarchy of features to cut for cost cutting, I don't mind seeing this one disappear.

I code them back on only for the legal checkup (MOT/TUV) every 2 years, or when it's extremly snowy, other than that totally useless feature.

I’m glad they took them out, all they were good for was getting washer fluid all over my freshly waxed hood and bumper. Since BMW took those away, I think they should include the European rear fog light standard on U.S. cars.

One of the very first things I coded off when I got Bimmercode. It doesn't snow here and I find washing the car occasionally works just fine.

Spraying water all over the place when I need to wash the windscreen is not a "feature" I want.

Lol. Maybe rotating the nozzles outboard 90 degrees would be a good mod?

Not sure why, but this is correct. Only my Xenon cars have had washers, none of my LED cars have.

I've never really understood the point of them, it's like a feature that's there for the sake of being there. It's useful once in a blue moon, if that.

With that being said, why would they get rid of it? That feature has been around on cars for decades. I suppose modern LED lights are so good that a little bit of snow/dirt isn't a big deal.

The point of headlight washers is to keep the headlights clean in order to reduce glare/diffraction of light in unwanted directions. It has nothing to do with snow, but with dirt.
LED headlights are not required to have washers as the total light output of these LED's is below a certain value (2000 lumen). Xenon bulbs go above that. (and tungsten obviously also below that).
That rule still stands and hasn't changed. (So if a car should have LED lights with an output above 2000 lumen, it would require the washers)
This is btw an european rule; afaik in the US, the washers aren't required at all.

European ruleset:
https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-cont...1X1206%2803%29

Ruleset for the washers itself:

So out of curiosity, how do you know if they are working? Is there a button or place to press to make the headlight washers come on? I have been of the belief that they came on when I push or pulled the stalk to clean the windshield.

I had the 02, 04, 06 , and 09 X5 and don't know if I ever pushed a button to change their state....

Thanks
