No, they perform the same. See the IIHS graphs and data.

The advantage of laser is High Beams and Selective beam (and day light footprint)

I have the Adaptive LED's and have been very impressed so far, best lights I have had on a car so far. See all kinds of wildlife just off the side of the road that I have not ween with other lights. Impressed

I am confused. I just ordered my M340i and I had 2 options, standard LED's, or the Laser ones. In the beginning of this thread it states there's (3) options. I'm only seeing the (2) for the US. Am I missing something?

It looks like the M340i comes standard with the mid-level LED Headlights with Cornering Lights, where the 330i comes standard with base LED Headlights without Cornering. So for the M340i, the only other option would be the top-level BMW Laserlight.

Bummer! Looking at the details in Denmark at the moment. Going from a F36 I really hate they intentionally made non-lasers ugly! Why not at least give the adaptive LED the full DRL!

Thought I should add my comments here.
Ive done about 3k Kms in the car already, in Germany, were its almost always dark ahah.

I have the Lazer Lights and they are a big step up from the LEDs. HUGE Difference I cannot emphasize that enough. Now the regular LEDs are great in Highbeam settings, when you dont have another frame of reference. They are good, just not as good as the Laser highbeam, because they are on another level of brightness and projection.

If you drive a lot at night, the Laser lights will be 110% worth it, and honestly even if you dont drive a lot at night they are worth it. The power of these headlights is something that you will sorely miss once you have used them.

Sadly, the US spec laser lights are not as bright. A lot of owners seem to have trouble distinguishing whether the lasers are active or not

Hello everyone,
I just ordered my first BMW the 330e!
For tax reasons I'm not able to choose anything but the base headlights(there is a special m-sport equipment package to keep the cost under a certain point)...
Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade to adaptive headlights on a later date?
Thanks for the help!

Exclamation Adaptive LED headlights

Help!

I've been trying to figure out when/how the smaller front facing lamp is for. I've never seen it turn on. So the main head lamp (outer most side) is the one thats on and adaptive and functions as high beam, then the one right next to it which I've never seen on and then the smaller lamp (inner most, closest to grill) turns on when reversing or turning for pedestrian.
What is that lamp in the middle for? I've never seen it turn on.

On Adaptive LED headlights the inner lenses are just dummy lenses. They do not light up. The same can be seen on many other BMWs, for example xenon headlights on pre-facelift F30 3 series and F10 5 series.

Correct, only the outer lights function. Only regret I have on my car is lack of executive for the lights. Ah well, cars great with or w/o it.

if its just " cause you can say you have laser", and no actual benefits, than meh.

again, people are looking for what is actually being sold, not what could be sold if bmw made that
Apparently the laser lights use half the power then the LED

Just as a data point - I've been speccing and ordering an M440i in the UK. Have had conversations with 2 different dealers on the Laser Lights option (visibility pack here in the UK @£1500 extra). Both sales guys said it wasn't worth the cost uplift - both said the Adaptives are excellent as they are. The second dealer said he'd used them on an X5, and was very underwhelmed at the difference in the real world.

However, the DRL do look a bit nicer I do admit - but £1500 for me was better spent on other things! I might change my mind before the order locks down of course, but given both sales advisors had no obvious agenda to put me off spending money with them, I'm pretty comfortable that I can live with the slightly different appearance!

Sales guys told you the truth. In fact, IHMS measured output of all headlights on the G20, and Adaptive LED actually has longer low beam than the Laser headlights. Laser headlights have longer high beam (only when Lasers kick in which is rare) and they also have selective beam functionality. If selective beam is not a priority for you, in terms of light output there is not much difference between Adaptive LED and Laser. In fact, Adaptive LEDs are very very good. To me they are good enough to comfortably drive 100mph on the autobahn just on the low beams.

Lasers only look much better in terms of the DRL signature. This was done deliberately by BMW to push more buyers in paying more for the Lasers.

Bottom line, those of us who can afford it do.

If you like the look, go for it.

It depends if Adaptive LED's have Anti-glare function, with Lasers you can drive having High beams on all night, with no safety issues for other drivers, they provide an amazing illumination.

I just don't know if Adaptive LED's have this functionality.

Link to ihms test? The iihs tests in us show the laserlight units to be superior in both low and high beams

Sorry for the typo. It's the IIHS tests you are referring to. https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle...oor-sedan/2020

Looking at those images right now. I must correct myself. Adaptive LED low beam is not better than Laser low beam. It's pretty much the same.
