Are the new keys that only work for comfort access while in motion available to order yet?

I don't get it. What is the benefit of the card over the fob?
After getting used to never taking the fob out of my pocket, that would be annoying. |

I just like that they fixed a few issues with the F30; fold mirrors when locking car, synced cabin temps, better arm rest storage, memory seat buttons where you can actually see them. The only thing I hoped they also fixed is the uber slow washer fluid fill up...

The BMW Key Card only works on the drivers door and can only be used to lock, unlock, and drive the vehicle. It will not switch Connected Drive Profiles.
You must put the Key Card on the NFC pad to drive the vehicle. You can use a compatible Samsung phone as a Digital Key as long as Verizon is NOT your carrier, Verizon does not supports NFC with BMW yet. |

So they copied this feature from the Tesla Model 3 including the unlock when approaching and lock when walking away feature. Have they made the phone key available for iPhone yet or is it still only Android? Thought it was weird you can get Apple Car Play but not Android Auto, then for the key it's the opposite.

1) The lack of iPhone Digital Key support is because of Apple, not BMW. BMW would certainly prefer the Digital Key to work on iPhones, but Apple only allows NFC for Apple Pay, so until Apple removes this restriction the Digital Key won't work. Hopefully that's coming in a future iOS update. It also doesn't work on Verizon Droids, because of restrictions Verizon places on their versions of their phones. BMW can't fix these, changes have to come from Apple and Verizon. 2) The lack of Android Auto in the car is because BMW feels Android Auto is not secure enough against hacking, and doesn't want to provide Google with their customer data per Google's requirements. They begrudgingly offer CarPlay, but if we're being honest, they want you using iDrive, not either of those systems. They didn't spend billions of dollars creating their bespoke iDrive system just so people could have the same interface in their $120k BMW that they see in a $12k Kia rental car. |

BMW is really acting to protecting us from evil hackers?? I think they made a wrong business bet about mobile technology, and will have to recant in the very short term, or will keep loosing clients to other brands (that are listening to their clients). |

It is a standard feature on the F30. You only have to hold "lock" (either on the key fob or touch the spot at the door handle for 2-3 seconds).

Not on US F30s, it has to be coded. With the newer US vehicles they've added the option choice for it in iDrive.

JRobUSC ,
And the fact that you can unlock a G20 with an Android phone (at least one whose carrier has allowed NFC like mine with T-Mobile) is the real kick in the pants as to BMW ignoring Android in favor of iPhones -- you can unloack your G20 with an Android, BUT you can't access the phone's apps with the car's iDrive. Go Figure!

I had a client who had a 2003 and 2005 SL55 back in those days and the card worked exactly like the keyfob. Just keep it in your pocket and you can lock, unlock and start the car.
