BMW v Gore 517 U.S. 559 (1996)

Repaired as "new"? Say it isn't so...

Wow that's insane. Wonder if other manufacturers were affected.

Ouch!

I was just speaking to a colleague in Munich a couple of days ago saying that they were enjoying non stop sunshine and summer climates!

Crazy. How can you not have the right to refuse such a car? I'd never in a million years accept this. I'd cancel my order and wait as long as it took until a new vehicle could be manufactured. This is what insurance companies are for. Send them to auction to recoup some cost and write off the rest.

I found out about this.

luvmybluesbb went on her Euro Delivery for her M2C and while she was there, she posted a Instagram story of hail while staying at the hotel. Then a day after apparently she was told her M2C might have been damaged during the hail.

Sucked~ least I now know what EU Delivery is! Kinda want to give it a shot next time.

BMW needs a huge storage garage to eliminate such losses and crappy customer experiences.

I hope the best for anyone who's car was waiting there.

If the cars truly have baseball size hail damage though then they're for sure not repairing them- they'll be totaled. Baseball size hail to a car can make the car look like it was in a war zone. Hope that's not the case.

The video posted looks more like quarter size hail which still isn't good, but can be repaired.

This has happened before, July 2017, involved Werk Regensburg production.

"My F80 was damaged by hail storm at Regensburg plant"https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1408185

I'm 110% positive that BMW AG has insurance to cover weather related damage, as the destination and handling fee certainly includes transport insurance.

I guess their is one positive reason to having manufacturing plants elsewhere, so if shit hits the fan.

Man, all those brand new expensive vehicles should really be under some kind of car port with solar ☀️ panels on the roof. That will protect the cars from weather conditions, UV light, and would also help power in the manufacturing plant at the same time.

since these cars havent made it to the dealership BMW does not have to report any damage... at least thats what applies to any other damage that occurs during shipment.

Nasty storm. My car was sitting outside at the drop off at the Munich airport. Thankfully was picked up a few days earlier and in Emden on the 10th. Hope anybody here with a car gets taken care of. (Pic of my car w some ED BMWs June 1...)

This is something that does happen once in a while. Also car ferries go down. Last one I heard of was a ferry heading to brazil. Among the many cars were 6 991 GT2 RS's...And production had stopped. But Porsche decided to resume production and finish 6 more! Good luck to those, who are waiting for news on their car.

They are just cars, just metal and plastic. Easy to fix, no tragedy.

Despite an emotional attachment, cars are exactly that: cars. In due time, cars can be repaired or replaced.
