So is this a 5-series sized car then? More in between the Model 3 and Model S?

bmw can get away with this car at $60k for the mid range config due to $7500 + $2500 (Cali) incentives. it just needs to have at least 300 mile EPA range to compare with Model 3 AWD. at least it can make up some sales lost to Tesla from 3/4/5 series.

if they somehow price it $10K over the Model 3 AWD then it's DOA. keep in mind the Model 3 Perf is $58K and can do 3.2s 0-60

My 2017 540i x lease is up on April 27. I am likely going to lease the Tesla Model 3 Long Range 320 miles with a selling price of $49,000 over the 330e. The Tesla Model 3 is a better value proposition. I'll decide the first week in March when the 330e pricing comes out. I hate to leave BMW but BMW screwed up big time with electric car options. It was idiotic not to develop a midsize BEV after they did i3.

Not sure whether it will be just as long as the G30 5er, but certainly more towards the G30 than the F30 3er, from all that we know.

Virtual World Premiere of BMW Concept i4

COMMENTS

The Geneval Auto Show has been cancelled due to concerns over the Coronavirus. However, BMW's biggest planned reveal - the Concept i4 - will still take place via a live streaming press conference.

BMW Press Release

February 28, 2020

Munich.
Due to the current situation, the Geneva International Motor Show 2020 has been canceled. While we certainly understand this decision, we also regret that the fair cannot take place as usual.

The BMW Group will carry out the program planned for Geneva including the world premiere of the BMW Concept i4 at a digital press conference with CEO Oliver Zipse in Munich at the originally scheduled time (Tuesday, March 3, 2020, 8.15 a.m. CET) and broadcast it via live stream. Further details concerning the live broadcast will follow as soon as possible.

And here's a new teaser image!

Proportions look good, although similar window design to the 2GC and from afar looks similar to a new Honda Accord and is lacking a Hoffmeister Kink. Also still waiting to see those buck teeth up front. Hopefully the front looks as tastefully done as the side profile.

Could be. That definitely falls into that category of design details I mentioned that doesn't even register on my radar. I like a good looking vehicle as much as the next guy, but I only have so much time and energy to worry about that. At some point the other parts of the car (the functional parts - the qualities that make it either good or bad at providing me transportation) take enough of my attention that the little things just become invisible.
I agree but those small details would always be on my mind and no matter what the overall outcome is with any BMW, it's always going to be the first thing that enters my mind or what I look at when I see it. The 8er Gran Coupe is an amazing car...but that "kink" absolutely ruins it for me. Small detail yes, but leaves a lasting impression and not necessarily in a good way.

The 8 GC is gorgeous. However I agree that the passenger door windows almost ruin the side profile for me. What the hell were they thinking?

Agree that this looks interesting, but it's difficult to buy into any electric car right now knowing that it/they will be very quickly improved upon/one upped by competition (they're only going to get better) vs. buying what is likely the best/last gas-powered sedans and coupes (especially so if you're a manual addict like some of us) we will ever have..

And much more weight...
Exactly why i will need the "pure" m3/4 when it releases, very likely to be the last generation with a manual transmission.

Rear legroom looks massive. The pitch is probably going to be 7 series room in a 4 series package.

Actually love the lines of this thing. Hopefully the range and charging network make it competitive.

It won't be DOA if it's more expensive than a Model 3. I've spent plenty of time riding around in my buddies Model 3 and it barely feels like a $40k car. I'll pay extra for comfort, safety, and quality.

The CA rebate changed in December last year, iirc it’s now $2000 max for BEV and anything above $60k msrp is ineligible

Not even close, have you been in the interior of a Model 3 or the S? They both feel like cheap plastic, especially the back seat.

My neighbor has a 3, its a really cool car, but if you are used to higher-quality interior materials you will be highly disappointed.

The Model 3 is also kind of small the i4 seems to be a bigger car if its closer to the current 3 series.
