Dealership wants me to trade my M3 for an M340i

I just got a letter from a local dealer stating that I can "upgrade" early from my 2018 M3 Comp in Tanzanite Blue over Silverstone to an M340i, for only $20 extra per month! I get like $7000 in loyalty credits, which basically seem to be negated by my final 7 payments on my M3.

I also have the Bootmod3 on the car. The longer I've had the car, the more I've grown to love the color combo. The only thing I would change is a proper 6 speed, but I assumed this lease and the deal was too good to pass up. Plus the DCT with the Bootmod3 is crazy quick.

Anyway, just checking to see if people actually prefer the M340 to the prior gen M3?

Here's a current clean pic of my car, excuse the dirty garage.

I wouldnt do it unless you are not happy with your car but just test drive and see the difference.

I had a 2014 335i M Sport. I know the M340 is supposed to be much better, but I can't imagine it coming close to the M3.

I'm surprised the offer is in the table, and I'm surprised the M340i lease is over $900 per month.

I'd certainly test drive one for fun.

Tanzanite Blue is so classy.

Didn’t chris Harris in his recent M2/CS video say how great the M3 was on the new Michelin 4S ?

5:33 mark about the tires

You have hardly broken in your M3. Why would you get rid of it?

Just to be clear, I'm not seriously considering the transaction. I'm surprised the dealer thought that anyone would consider this transaction. I mean no disrespect to the M340i.
It seems like I'm in good company here.

I've leased many nice cars. I'm fairly certain this will be the first car that I purchase at lease end.

Not sure why you would replace a real M car with an M car lite, and add insult to injury by paying even more per month for it.....BMW will be laughing their assess off at you if you do it.

To get into (significant) downgrade ($80k vs. $62-63k) at "only" extra $20/month??
I am downgrading to M340i for different reasons and my payment is going down by $300/month

I wouldn't trade it now, there's no reason why your payments for M340 should be $20 higher

Yeah but that makes more sense. And no issue with reprioritizing your budget.

It's just a sales pitch. They sent me a very similar letter regarding my 2015 335i.

If I could get away with a RWD daily I would have bought myself an F80.

My M340 is an awesome daily and has AWD for the shitty winters out here. Just depends on your situation and what your needs are. Yes the M340i is a big step from the F30 and is plenty fast for normal day to day driving but the new G80 is going to absolutely blow the M340i away in regards to performance etc.

Plus an M340 can be leased for well under $600. I'd walk away personally

But if anyone did take the dealership up on the proposal, the dealership would make out like a thief in the night.

Keep your M3 until it dies!

Wait for the G80 M3 then decide as 4 options will be opened, keep existing, upgrade to G20 M340, upgrade to G80 M3 Pure or upgrade G80 M3 Compeitition.

+1 for Tanzanite Blue

Going from an M3 Competition to an M340i is a downgrade not an upgrade.

Absolutely not. Unless you want something more comfortable, efficient, and daily driver friendly. Otherwise, keep the M and enjoy the rest of your time with.

BTW, this is quite a common practive and is called lease pull ahead. The programs vary on how early your local dealer can pull ahead your lease and cover the remainder of the payments. This is mainly done to sell you a new car and prvent you from leaving the brand - also lock you in for another 2 to 3 years of payments. Lastly, dealers receive incentives when they hit certain monthly targets for new car sales and make the money back with bonuses. With BMW specifically, they hold some of the money from the sale and ties to customer experience surveys. Never fill out a survey unless your are 100% finished and satisfied as you can hold this a leverage if something does not go your way or is unethical.
