I predict that the G80, like the G20, will have "conjoined grills"
New user, been lurking for a year. I noticed that the trend for all the new BMW's are having conjoined kidney grill. Honestly, I do not like the look of the conjoined kidney grill. (IE: The M2 competition grill's are conjoined, the new 3 series looks like they're getting conjoined grills.) Hence, it makes me wonder if the new G80 M3/M4's are getting conjoined grills.

At least you are worried about the important details like how much faster/better handling it will be. Will there still be a manual/what kind of engine or AWD, etc. ...

My Pontiac Firebird did not have a connected grill. Actually a lot of the parts on that car were not properly connected and some of them actually fell off. The grill did not fall off but it rattled a lot.

So your priority over performance, handling, steering feedback, and anything performance wise is whether the car will have conjoined kidney grills.
Also, some people argue that its more traditional of BMW to have conjoined grills like they use to during the 70s and 80. |

What concerns me is the big power bump the g20 340i and 440i will be getting ~385hp which really closes the gap in power not to mention x drive configs when compared to the f80/f82s

I believe they were already understated at the advertised 340hp or whatever. But this only means the next M will run well over 450 but not too close to the M5, lol.

Why? In some conditions the current 340/440 will get an M3/4 off the line, especially if is a manual. It is what it is, it always goes this way.

Look at the way the M8 is going as well. I feel compelled to say that BMW's are going through a conjoined grill look going forward. |

We are just giving you are a hard time, everybody has their reasons for what they like/don't like in a car. I don't know if you've driven any of these or what your car history is, but maybe when you drive one the conjoinment issue will be less of a priority for you. Welcome by the way! |

The M3/4 has always been more than just a power bump though. After owning a 340i before my F80 the difference in driving dynamics beyond just more power and torque is staggering.

In the G20/G80 generation itll be interesting because I feel they will be a lot closer together since the power will be closer, theres no dual clutch and the G20 will even have an e-diff etc. Itll be interesting, if its going to be the type of gap that say the b9 s5 and rs5 have. |

No doubt the grilles are going towards the styling you suggested. The thing is, BM has historically updated its grille design for every generation... which was fine, I suppose. But then they started adjusting the grille design for every individual line up. The 7-series has huge beast-chipmunk teeth like grilles for example, which I thought looked more comedic than aggressive (I assume BM intended for the latter, as they usually do). It's almost as if they're on a journey of their own to solve the most perfect, most optimal kidney grille design... My point is they've kind of set themselves a precedence of their own and now they feel pressured to constantly update a design, even if it were solved- they've now committed to making them shallower and wider for the next generation. The double kidney grille (separated ones) are so iconic that you could slap them on 90% of cars and from a certain distance it'd look like some sort of BMW. I don't think they should have took it this far... FWIW they had it solved on the E92. |
