What do you guys use to clean the iDrive 8 curved display?
Seen after having my car for a couple of days how it will of course pick up lots of finger prints.
With such a beautiful display, I would hate causing any micro scratches and thinking what type of cloth to use to make sure that doesn't happen. I'm thinking using the same type of cloth you use for cleaning camera lenses etc might be suitable? How do you guys keep your curved screen clean? Or maybe the best option to avoid finger prints all together is by keeping your fingers away from the screen and stick to the iDrive Controller like in the old days 😂 |

Found this one which I think would work well based on the demonstration in the clip below and all various types of screens it's aimed at.

I use the OEM BMW Display Cleaning Cloth (83-12-5-A4E-F99)
No liquids to be used - just the cloth https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...xlY3RyaWMtZ2Fz

Considering how expensive it would be to replace the screen if it was ruined, this certainly is one of those occasions when you are rather safe than sorry! Just tried buying this item but learned US only...sigh... Will see if I can find it somewhere in EU. |

Apparently, some cleaning liquids such as those containing ammonia can damage the screen surface so instructions state not to use any
I would think using plain water, or special cleaner made for computer monitors/TV's would be OK though? But with the OEM cloth it is made from special material that removes finger marks without using any liquid. At 1st I thought using this dry this might lead to scratching do to dust/dirt, but I have been using it on all my BMW screens for yrs without any damage

Yeah, fact is I bought a product (liquid with a very soft cloth included) which is meant to be used for cleaning computer monitors, laptop screens, TVs etc. I like to think it would have been perfectly safe but I didn't dare take any chances.
So, I returned it and will try to find the original BMW cloth you linked to above if I can only find it here in EU. |

I clean my BMW's screen with single use lens wipes, one wipe is enough for the touchscreen thing and I use another for the gauge cluster. I got a good deal 0 $5 for 100 wipes so I've been using them quite often.

A microfiber cloth I store in the cubby next to the steering wheel. Works great on my sunnies too 😎

I dust it and then use a fresh MF cloth for windows and ammonia free glass cleaner. I spray the glass cleaner on the cloth and not directly on to the screen.
It is part of my regular spot detailing and car was routines. I probably clean it 3-4 times a week. |

Having had other screens get micro scratches all over them I have put a glass protector on mine.
My wife works at OPSM (Lens Crafters in the States) so she bought me home a microfibre cloth and some lens cleaner. |
