Have a 2018 M240
Thinking about upgrade to 330 or 340 ? Anyone did such a thing in your past and have advice or opinions? M240 was 3rd just for fun car. 3 series will be the daily driver. |

I haven't driven 2-series, but I have owned F20 1-series(basically 2-series hatchback) and it is so much lighter and agile car than G2X. If you do not need the space and cargo volume of 3-series such a change will have mostly downsides. G2X has better comfort, sound isolation and driving assistance systems.

I agree with the others in that you should go M340 because you will absolutely miss the power. Years ago I made a similar mistake and regretted it for 3 years. Don't be me.
All that said, the M240 is more fun to drive. The M340 with XDrive almost feels like using a cheat code in a video game, it just handles so well there's little in the way of challenge. |

I had a 2020 330i prior to my 21 M340i and man was it super slow. Its night and day compared to the M340i (definitely an insult to even compare the two). You will definitely miss the power of the b58.
Anyone that compares the 330i to the m340i is because they never drove the M340i its handling and power is so much fun for a daily. exactly like your M240i just slightly heavier. |

I had an F21 240 with OEM LSD. It was very tossable and fun (shorter wheelbase) with plenty of power.
The 4 GC has a bit more power, lots more structural rigidity, more composed, far better materials. It's better in every way, except that it's not as light and tossable. And, to the OP's point, I would not step down in power unless it were a second car for family, commuting, or whatever. Or unless finances really insisted up on it. After having even a fun car for six years, I understand the itch for something different and new. And I understand trying to rationalize one's way into the more affordable new-car solution--which I think may be happening here.
