Stupid tire monitor

So a few months ago I was in FL on a business trip and my car decided it forgot what kind of tires were on it (22 440i gc) and I had to manually pick it.

Ok fine, whatever, forgot about it.

This week with the cold I finally hit the pressure threshold for the "please check tires at your convenience" warning. I filled them up when I got home.

Next day same warning. So last night I decided, ok, I'll see what it says it wants and fill to that.

It said 39 front and 42 rear so I fill to that. I get back in and the warning is still there and now it says 42/45. I'm like, really? Are we going to keep going up until we blow the tires out?

I noticed that auto detect was available again and it told me to drive so I went around the block and it settled on 40/42 and the tires were at 39/41 so it shut up.

Damn electronics.

Just change it to manual and reset it with the correcr psi you know your specific tires should have. Idrive is not always correct. In fact, it’s wrong 70% of the time, which is why it should be manually adjusted based on specific tire installed, ambient temp, target tire psi and driving style.

I didn't get an option to manually set pressure, it asked for tire size and then recommended the linear scale to destruction.

idrive 7 = tire menu -> Manual, select tire type, then perform reset after you've filled up psi desired.

Curious, what tire are you running?

With manual tire selection, what are you choosing for "Maximum speed"? If you choose ">100“, it will make you inflate the tires to explosion lol. Set it to " <100" to get more livable recommendations.
With maximum speed set to "<100" and cold tires at 80F, my pressure recommendations are 36psi front 39psi rear.

It’s totally dependent on tires, ambient temp and type of driving. No such thing as a 100% accurate blanket recommendation.

Based on Michelin website and real world feedback, PS4S should be ran 35-38 psi HOT. Regardless of what idrive recommends.
