The only DCT out there that BMW could use is the DCT that Porsche uses but that's not cheap but its also made by ZF, and Porsche also uses the ZF-8 speed auto.

Your talking milliseconds difference in shift times.

ZF-8 150-200ms // DCT 60-150ms // manual 500ms-1s // human blink 100-400ms
For the purists they will never believe that a ZF is as good as a DCT. For me I think it's great for 98% of my driving in my M340

The rwd version will be enticing if it puts the power down better than the F80. The new m5 is so much faster than the f10 due to their awd, the motor is essentially the same between the two, the awd makes all the difference at these power levels. The G80 will be a beast in awd, BUT I'm gonna be crazy torn between the awd or the manual trans. Comp pack, awd, manual trans... THAT would be beast.

One can only wish that they are waiting to release manual on the awd car and will do so if they see a strong take rate on the manual in rwd guise.

Equally frustrated.... but I think following the rumors and even some of the first drive articles we should be able to order xdrive spring or summer... however I do kinda expect another buying surge for xdrive allocations, might be hard to get one at a fair price till fall 2021. This delay was probably a gift to dealers to give another round of adm/msrp sales.

Now show me the same track video with the auto transmission!

For bonus marks, one video with the auto transmission choosing which gear to be in, and a second video where the driver tries to choose the correct gears using the paddles.

Sold, love the manual, 4 door M3, do not care about the grilles or the lack of comp pack, the base manual is going to be epic.

Unlike people on this forum???? All I see is people looking for AWD models with autos. If BMW made 50% of these cars in manual, half these guys, and their wives, would be driving Audis.

Sounds good inside, shame it looks so bad on the outside.

I'm not sure if this has been asked / answered before but does this M4 use the fake synthesised engine sounds through the car speakers (BMW Active Sound)?

Hopefully not!

Probably about the same as it is now, and most F8X owners aren't running around with Comp models.

I suspect that delayed launch of MxDrive means that M division hasn't quite figured out reducing car's weight without displeasing accountants like they did with F8x, which came with CFRP driveshaft, trunk, roof and several aluminum parts that achieved similar to slightly less weight compared to E9x M3 despite larger dimensions.

Like @4:30 of the G8x M3 video, the car is still "very pressure heavy".

Well that, or they're tired of hearing the "it's way too heavy" laments from the crowd here.

The german journalist from Auto BILD who test drove it said the cornering behaviour was way better than the F82 (apparently they let them drive an M4 comp initially, so they could compare) and that the car felt lighter than the previous gen (but they were given no numbers by BMW).

But then BILD itself is a despicable tabloid and I'm not sure how independent his opinion is seeing how he was one of the few journalists with access to the press test drive.

Also of note, german bimmerpost website report praised the steering on the outgoing M4 (they probably also drove that before the new one), but didn't discuss steering on the G82...

Would be interesting to know whether it was really impossible from a technical point of view for BMW to mate the DCT with the M xDrive - any pointers/links for that?

It will be possible to switch auto-blip on/off independently from the DSC state.

Think I'll Wait for LCI and get a Tune - love the current F82.

I love the current F82 Competition, love the shape, classic BMW. I am also not a huge fan of the digital dash, but that's just me and understand why other like it.

I know we've all not seen the new M3/M4 yet in all its glory, only teasers and renders, but apart from the AWD being added, I really think I will keep the current F82 and get a Tune on the current M4 to produce the same power and wait for the LCI version.

If BMW make a design mistake here, or even a slight mistake, I think they will correct it on the LCI update. If so, then for me that is the time to buy. Saying that I must expose that I always wait for the LCI version, right or wrong!

By the way not hanging anything on the current M3, i love that too, I just don't have any kids, so only the wife and I, so Love Coupes!

Really look forward to hearing thoughts on this.

Is it just me or is also difficult for some to build up excitement for a sporty, BMW M car, that grew in dimensions and optimistically, is certainly going to touch the 4,000lbs+ mark, when fitted with an automatic transmission & XDrive, for the top-tier model.. And I'm not even getting started on its exterior styling, which we know is a whole other novel..

The manual option looks decent, on the track but it really doesn't bring anything new to the table, that really sets it above its predecessor.. It's like; new lease, same shit :

It's appears as trilling as a Cadillac CTS-V, for the BMW crowd..

Anyways, that's just my opinion, I hope its targeted demographic has a difference outlook than I do and can grow to appreciate it..
