There's no way I'll be out in 2019 the m340i will barely be for sale in summer 2019. Probably 2020 at the earliest

Thank you so much. I been looking at this 18 m3 but kept having people tell me to wait for the new m3 coming out then I found this one picture in the yas marina blue. I'm not sure if this was a real pic or just a rumor picture but it looks like it's worth the wait if it's only a few months but if 2020 I'll get the 18 m3 for now

Yes my thoughts were that if it shares the same front end parts as the coupe, then they may wait until the 4 series debuts before releasing the G80 M3. But I hope that's not the case. They're so similar anyway, who gives a shit

I'm currently in my 2016 340i and the warranty ends at the very end of 2019. I'm interested in finally stepping into the M world as I'll be easily able to daily it in Colorado with the AWD.

I don't want to pay $3,000 to extend my current warranty to March 2021, but I'm also a bit paranoid as I've had to replace the transmission on my 340 which would have cost me $14,000.

With custom ordering, when am I realistically looking at getting in the G80? I realize it will be in 2020, but how far in? In other words, if I don't extend my 340 warranty, how long will I be driving it without a safety net before getting in to the G80?

I was under the impression that we'll see these as MY 2021 so summer/fall 2020 at earliest but I might be wrong.

G80 M3 will be revealed at IAA 2019, I believe sales begin spring 2020.

The ZF 8HP is relatively reliable. With 60k mile transmission fluid changes, there's no reason to believe it'll be the source of any issues. You probably just got a bad one originally.

You'll probably be able to get your car by early 2021 so it'll be at most another 2 years. I don't know what car companies have done to make every so afraid of owning a car out of warranty. Once you have no warranty, there is very little reason to take your mass produced car to the stealership and you'll find repair costs are much more palatable at an indy shop.

Stuff really doesn't cost that much; the dealership just makes you think stuff is expensive for several reasons. First, it makes you afraid of owning it out of warranty and keep leasing/buying new cars. Second, they make more money from people that only go to the dealership, even out of warranty. And third, it makes you think that the $3000 extended warranty you get is worth it because you would have been charged $1500 for a couple gaskets that would have cost $500 from a good mechanic. Even the dealership doesn't expect people to come back there for an out of warranty car.

You might get one big $1000-$2000 repair if you're unlucky, but likely you'll have no trouble. There's extremely little chance of you needing $3000 worth of service in the next 2 years. Just do oil changes every 7k miles and do those transmission fluid changes at 60k miles (which is the ZF recommendation).

Based on the timescale of launch for the X3M, I think roughly this will be the timescale for the UK

Global unveil/launch: Frankfurt motor show sept 2019

Ordering starts November 2019
Customer deliveries March 2020

I think also from a business perspective, they will want to give the M340 a chance before drowning it out with the M3

This is only my guesswork though !!

My thoughts thinking through a few scenarios

Version 1:
SCOTT26 confirmed the G80 is going to share the design theme of the next gen 4 series G22/G82 so on the assumption that we will not see the M3 revealed until after or possibly the same time as new 4 series (even a 4 concept)

fall 2019/winter 2020 4 series live or concept at auto show
Spring M3 2020 debut online
M3 orders summer 2020 for fall deliveries as 2021MY to dealers along the same timeline as 4 series coupe
M4 coupe is fast follow with spring 2021 on sale
-Version 1b: M3 fully delayed to match M4 debut with onsale spring 2021

Version 2: they prioritize M3 getting to market regardless of 4 series, despite design similiarity
M3 introduced Fall 2019/winter 2020
M3 orders winter 2020 for spring 2020 delivery start as 2020MY

I thought it was confirmed the G80 was going to be revealed at the Frankfurt show in September? If that's the case we should be seeing them on the street by early to mid 2020. Sound about right?

Upcoming BMW model pipeline suggested SOP at later part of 2020, likely to be MY2021 or later.

So looks like 2 different leaks here:

[Source unkown]: fall 19 intro with early 2020 onsale (could still be a 2021MY)

Insider from new model thread: TBD intro, Late 2020 on sale as 2021MY

Does anyone know the orgin of the fall 19 intro leak? I have seen it reiterated a few times accross the site but it seems to be circular.. someone referencing someone else who referenced someone else who took some money from kaiser soze

I see mention of a Frankfurt 2019 intro by resident insider SCOTT. His information is not 100% bonded, but I suspect this will prove to be accurate.

It remains to be determined/revealed whether this vehicle will be a properly deemed "M3" and reflect a production-ready prototype which would mean production could subsequently start at any time, or if it will be labeled "Concept M3" and be a production-ish preview which would mean production may start anywhere from a few months to as much as a year later.

ah ok, i had not seen that... could be as generic as introducing the new G80/G22/G82 design language or as official as production car introduction

Like the M8 concept...

Well if they stick to the cycle it would be early 2021 production, but late 2020 wouldn't shock anyone... that would also mean they would actually have 2 full years before the LCI, always pissed off first year buyers when the second year M3 got LCI updates.

When I visited the Germany plant back in January, the consensus was SOP in late 2020. I'd be shocked if it's anything sooner...

They will have one more winter of testing so no chance we see this car before spring time, looks like the IAA reveal will just be a concept.

I am about to lease an F80 for 2 years to hold me over. My lease is up on my existing F80 and I am so overmiles I cant buy it out.

I am ONLY doing a 2 year lease so I can be in a position to lease a G80 when they come out or soon after.

Does this timeline seem to make sense?
