Does this timeline seem to make sense?
You should be good with that timeline. It will still be very early in the G80 lifecycle, but not day one either.

Thanks man. I can always jump out of the lease 3 months early.

My guess would be earliest at late spring/summer of 2020.

Looks like the G80 won't debut in 2019....

This article says the M3 will be on sale by the end of this year or early next. Highly doubtful. When do you think we will see this car?

All I know is that there will be M3/M4 and M3/M4 Competition, and that there will be more separation between regular and Competition models than before. Everything else is a mystery to me now. BMW, you win a point here.

But his information never said "August 2020" to begin with.

That said, regardless of the uncertainty surrounding the drivetrain details of the M3, the release window isn't going to widen. So, at the very worst, we can expect the G80 M3 on the market by the first half of 2021, seven years after the F80 M3 came to market. It may very well come earlier, so yes, a launch sometime in the latter half of 2020 is also still a possibility. However, at this particular time, I would say that any claims of an exact month should be treated with skepticism.

When the information gives a date such as 2020 it means that year not the American way of introducing a model year.
The actual gap between official launch and present does allow an opening for conceptual appearance.

The G80 will launch in 2021 as MY2022 for the US market. The LCI model will arrive a year later as MY2023 along with G20 LCI (including new tail lights). Since we know from spy shots that the G8x will share some elements of the G2x 4 Series front end, this aligns well with G22 Coupe release next year.

The release cycle has been fairly predictable for two generations of M3 model before this one.

Just makes the most sense for a daily driveable track car for a man with kids. Does so much so well and I miss my F80s!

I agree with you both... I'm stuck and I don't know what to do I'm very picky and I want to make sure that the G80 is everything I want and more before pulling the trigger.

Will G80 and 82 debut at same time like the F80 and 82 did?

This is nearly guaranteed to be false, unfortunately. Spring 2021 is far more likely.

At this point, since we know that the M3 will again borrow the M4's front end, that is very probable, yes.

definitely frustrating that of all the "traditional M features" BMW has shown a ruthless effort to evolve with the market (auto, turbo, xdrive, more lux features, suvs) the one they have not is the significantly delayed market launch.... really doesn't make sense in this day of instant expectations. It feels like they are just delaying for the sake of a delay... There is enough information out in the market for enthusiasts who feel strongly about G80 over F82 that they are just going to wait it out, costing BMW sales. Conversely the average pigeon consumer just buying the M3/M4 for the badge wont even care about which platform is newer and just buy the coupe or sedan based on how many doors they want

it would probably be more productive for them to invest in pulling forward the 4 series launches going forward to align them closer to the 3 series

May as well wait for the G80 LCI a year later if it's really 2021.

The F30 was launched in spring 2012 and I ordered my F80 in spring 2014 for euro delivery in summer 2014 from my dealers first allocation. With the G20 launch in spring 2019 a G80 launch in spring 2021 would follow the same timeline between the 3 series and the M3.

All seems to have gone very quiet now, haven't seen any recent sightings or news. Frankfurt only a couple of months away if it really is meant to be unveiled then (concept I'm guessing)
