No. BMW has the 2 Series Gran Coupe and M8 Gran Coupe making their public debuts in LA. We won't see the M3 at an auto show until sometime next year.

There may or may not be an M3 Concept. Last generation, there was no M3 Concept, but there was an M4 Concept.

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=877447

It would not be farfetched to expect something similar this time around, and if it were coming, it would not be unreasonable to expect it about seven years from the date on that thread.

Since the topic has come up recently in other threads, I want to reiterate once again that the timeline for first deliveries will be in the second quarter of 2021 at the absolute latest, with first quarter still being very possible.

I know that Flasch recently said production starts early 2021, but he may have been speaking about actual deliveries. ynguldyn has reported recently that BMW will end F33/F83 production a bit early (August now rather than October). That may be significant because, as some may recall, the F80 was built in Regensburg with the convertibles rather than Dingolfing with the F30 3 Series sedan. If BMW intends to do the same thing again (which seems likely at this point), that opens the door for the factory to be ready to begin production of the G80 a bit sooner.

I was hoping for deliveries of G80 M3 by Q4 2020 (as 2021 model year) but apparently Q1 2021 is the most likely scenario now. Would that make it 2022 model year? Will BMW provide official production or start of delivery dates before the reveal?

My MY 2008 E60 and MY 2011 F10 were both available in March the prior year so my guess is that it will be MY 2022 if they are first available in March 2021.

Hmm... looks like I'll be doing a lease take over then to hold me over ~12 months. Have a year left on the wife's 320 but it sounds like we're minimum 18 months from now before they really start hitting showroom floors in quantity to warrant not getting reamed.

These are taking too long to get here. Especially the M3. I can't understand why they have the life cycles like this.

It's annoying indeed, but it does have its logic. As with most models, the cycle lasts about 7 years. And it looks like the new M3/M4 will come right about 7 years after the release of the predecessor.

What's bothering is the large period between the release of the 3 series and the M3. The reasons are relatively obvious. On the one hand the M3 has the same front as the 4 series resp. the M4, which will be introduced much later. So they can't/don't want to publish this before. The other reason could be that the M3 could now take potential buyers of the current M4, because many would no longer buy the old model if the new one is already available (even if in sedan form).

Warped logic not having the G80 on the market when the competition are filling the void. If the car is ready you are just giving yourself less time to recoup your investment.

Agreed, not good to have a product off the market. It make no sense from any aspect if it truly is ready.

To me the more revealing part of that press release is that the M3/M4 were not mentioned in the list of M vehicles arriving in dealerships 2020, which confirms they will not be available to drive home until 2021:

It sounds similar to the F8X. It was revealed in August 2013 as a concept that looked exactly as the production car and then started showing up at auto shows the coming months. I went to Vancouver BC to see them in January or February 2014 and put my order in March 2014 for a July delivery at the Welt which was from my dealers first allocation.

So an earliest-available order date of March 2021 seems very likely.
