Sport Seat Firmness

Hi Everyone,
Recently purchased a G01 X3 (yes, I know I am in the G20 3 series forums but the seats are identical and it's slightly more active here), I have read a few threads over there with people mentioning the sport seat firmness (and how it is very firm and uncomfortable for them). I have also seen some threads over here mentioning similar.

Has anyone in recent experience noticed similar? My car in particular has Vernasca Leather and the Sport Seats, non-ventilated. While I did not notice it on the test drive or even in my first day of driving, I did notice some complaints on the forum and then of course started paying more attention to it and realizing they are firm. My thinking is that a firm seat is likely better for posture, but has anyone noticed it really affecting them on longer drives? This is a highway commuter car for me, but have yet to actually take any long drives to see how they will be. I was actually cross shopping with some Lexus products and their seats are almost not supportive enough, so I guess there is no real winner here.

Thanks for the input.

Picture of seat that I found online (that matches mine) attached.

My previous car was Volvo, which have the most comfortable seats in the business. So yea, compared to my Volvo, the seats in my M340 are not very comfortable. The seats are the only complaint I have with my M340. However, the more I drive it, the more I get used to the seats. But on long drives, the seats are not very forgiving.

Thanks for the input. I think firm seats are supposed to be better for your back, but I’ll see if I get used to it. I hope that I do as I like everything else about it. But if I don’t get used to it, I’ll sell the car sooner than the 4-6 years I’d normally keep it.

I have the same seats you show in the picture. I’ve taken 6+ hour drives from Chicago to Ohio and I think they’re comfortable. Once you get everything set right they’re fine.

We have sport seats in both our 330i and X3. I've done long drives in the 330i (3hr+ continuously) and have had zero issues with the swat comfort. I really like the sport seats (compared to the sport seats in our A7 and non-sport seats I had in our A4). The SQ5 has sport seats and while it's much better than the ones in the A7, it isn't as good as the 330is.

Did several college trips with my daughter - the seats are fantastic for long drives when setup right.

I have identical seats to OP's in my 330i. I have done a few country drives (200km+) and find them really comfortable. Good amount of support: Firm but not too hard. Back certainly feels fine after a long day in the saddle.

As others have said, you've got to set them up right.

FWIW, they're better than the F30 sports seats that I had before.

I had to spend a LOT of time figuring out driver position. Once that got dialed in I think the seats are comfortable. Firm but that is my preference.

Don't the seats in the G01 have more cushioning than the seats in the G20? Even though the seat design is identical, I believe the cushioning is different. When I had an X3 as a loaner the seats felt much cushier than in my m340i and as a result much more comfortable.

I haven't paid attention to it. We have both G20 and G01 at home and I haven't noticed a difference in comfort between the two seats. I guess I should pay more attention.

The seats are a lot more forgiving than the M3, that's for sure.

That said, nothing has yet to compare to the seating I had in the M550i. It was supportive, yet plush. Hard to describe and tough to now forget when taking long driving trips.

52106994374 - part number for the G01 X3 and G20 3 appear to be the same. The 4 series is a different part.

Thanks for the input everyone. Like I mentioned, I have very few miles on my car yet, so I'm sure it's just something I was paying too much attention to.

I just remember my G20 330i base has sports seats.

They are quite comfy, even without lumbar support(that my F30 had).

The only complaint is that passenger side width adjustment was stripped for $100+ factory credit, I definitely would have preferred the feature(heck, I would have paid extra $100 instead of received $100+ credit to get it!).

Yeah I just recall the x3 loaner having noticeably more comfortable seats. I'm wondering if it had sensatac seats and maybe that was causing the difference

The Sensatec sports seats in mine are fine, but not great. They definitely felt better after breaking them in with 2 round trip drives from LA to Vegas. Comfortable enough that they didn't bother me for the entire 4-5 hours each way, but more cushioning would be nice. In my experience they feel better with some slightly aggressive bolstering and without using lumbar support, to help me sink into them a bit more.

Sport seats pads?

Enjoying my CPO G20.

Only issue is the seat is a bit firm. And, the boster hit a sensitive spot on my lower back/butt. From several back surgeries/fusion.

I have a generic bottom seat pad which helps a bit. Are there any aftermarket pads that fit in the seat depressions to flatten them out?

I have tried several from Amazon, none really helped a lot.

I found the seats in my 330i G20 uncomfortable at first but they were ok after a while. Nowhere near as comfortable as those on my previous 328GT and a million miles away from the comfort on a previous Volvo S80.

I certainly noticed the increased comfort when I traded my 330 for an 840…chalk and cheese.

Hi Randy:
I had similar issues with my new G20 330i seats. After much trial and error, and forum advice, I purchased a sheep skin cover for my driver's side seat. It has done an excellent job of remedying pressures points on my backside. I bought it from Overland in Napa. Just a potential suggestion!

Thanks for the advice.
I remember that Sheepskins were all the rage in the 80s/90s, didn't realize they were still available. Like Disco, forgotten about.

I currently use a generic Amazon seat pad and an additional memory foam cut from generic stock. Raise my body up about 3 in, ~8cm. which helps a lot.

With only 25k/mi on the car, the seats will likely soften.

Here's a pic in case it's helpful. They also make a charcoal gray. Go 80s!
