I've called about 20 different dealers all over the country and none of them were willing to sell me their i4M50s.

Did you discuss price in your request?

I was told they weren't allowed to sell their demo cars until August. Three diff dealers all told me that.

Then you got some dealers following the rules, there has been a decent amount willing to bypass that (usually at a decent markup). My dealer claims they won't sell theirs until August too, which gives me hope that they won't surprise me when my order does come in.

Test done m50 for a short time at Stevens Creek. I also have an hour long drive with Pleasanton dealer in a few weeks. It's worth driving a few times.

Ordered September 20, 2021

I spoke with my sales rep today concerning my production allocation. I reserved my i4 M50 on September 20, 2021 and am still waiting for allocation for my vehicle to go into production. I was told today that they fully expect me to get my car this year but that it would probably be a 2023 model.

I was actually able to test drive the i4 M50 at a BMW event held in Northern Virginia a couple weeks ago.

Given existing delays at the ports and transport, and manufacturing, it is very unlikely any dealer will deliver in 2022 on a reservation placed now. Remember some people that preordered a year ago still don't have their car.
Yes placed order with dealer in South [GA] about 3 weeks ago...delivery in 2023 as 2023 model in writing MSRP plus add on ceramic coating was deal in writing. As I add ceramic to my cars anyway [do it myself]; I am okay with that as alternate dealer had LOJACK add on to MSRP for all pre-orders for allocations now also at higher price. But yes if anyone orders now unlikely to see a car anytime in next 8-12 mos...that is the state of the market my friends. Unless you're lucky to find something on the lots that is....good luck!

I had one bought out from under me today, well sort of, I played around too long. But another dealer has two in transit they are selling. He is calling me next week when they arrive. They aren't taking deposits on them, but when they come it's first come first serve....sort of. A few days before it actually gets to port he is going to send me a docusign doc to put my name on it. Stinks they are all white though, lol.

But this dealer did say an interesting thing. He expected new orders to be delivered in the fall of this year or the winter at the latest. Having hope for the fall almost makes me want to wait and get what I really want (color) and not jump in line. I dunno.

Look around at all the posts from people who pre-ordered last June and have no idea if they'll get their car by this fall (like me).

Seriously. If you put down a deposit a year ago, you don't know when your car will be made much less delivered. But if you put down a deposit now, no problem, you'll get it Reasonably Soon.

I keep seeing comments from people about “putting down a deposit” when they ordered their i4. My BMW dealer took my order in Feb and said that no deposits were being taken. I know there was a sold out “premier” order group of 2,000 people and perhaps that group put down deposits?

I’m still waiting for official word from BMW that my order has been accepted and processed. I did test drive the M50 this week and the dealer expects confirmation in June or July. He is still talking Nov delivery.

Pre-orders required a $1500 deposit via credit card when signing up on BMW USA's website. That closed late last year.

That's interesting, I put my order in March and put $1,000 down, so not sure how that works. It's refundable, but as long as I can get the car we ordered I can be patient.

It's up to the dealer; that's who you're buying the car from, not BMW. Some want a deposit up front, some do not.

Pre-ordering was done through BMW, who in that case set some of the rules, but even then it was the dealer who charged the credit card and holds onto the money.

I don't think that's true… my CC definitely went to BMW NA, not my dealer. They didn't even know how it worked until I told them!

You gave BMW your CC number, and they forwarded it to the dealer. Look at your CC statement; it wasn't BMW NA who charged your card.

You'll need to add another $2500-$2800 or so (based on the options you selected) for MY23 price increases. My guess is the new builder will come later this month or early July.

Keep calling around. You might get lucky and find a cancellation that's "close enough" to your specs.

After spending the last year debating whether to order one, I finally test drove a couple and decided to pull the trigger on a 40. The M50 is sublime, but the 40 works for me. I knew it would be a long wait. I got lucky on the third dealer.

The first one where I had test driven had an allocation for an eDrive40 and said they would honor MSRP. But was adding a "mandatory" $2,500 protection package to all their cars (floor mats, nitrogen, wax). They reduced to $1,700 with the "if you buy it today" BS. They also promised I'd have it in 6-8 weeks, which I strongly believe was a lie. No thanks.

Second dealer would not commit to MSRP until I actually wanted to order one. Happy to order, but no allocation and wouldn't arrive until Summer 2023+.

The last one was up-front; MSRP, regardless of delivery. And I got lucky, they also had an on-the-boat cancelled preorder eDrive40 specced almost exactly as I would have built it. I was leaning black sapphire, theirs is skyscraper grey and even includes PAP, which wasn't available on a new order. The car isn't listed on their website as "in transit", so I had no idea until I talked to them. I signed the purchase agreement last week, $1,500 deposit.

MSRP + normal tax, title, & registration; that's it. Expected delivery sometime in August. It's sitting in Baltimore right now with the valet mode stop sale.

If you are costco member try there. My local dealer that costco sent me to said $350 off MSRP plus whatever discounts we qualify for, loyalty, college grads, mil, etc.. better than nothing at this time.

No PAP and DAPP for the e40 so I'm not biting, debating if I want the range or DAPP, my thought is DAPP compliment the range for longer trips, I wouldn't want to take an m50 on a road trip.
