It's a design / cost call. F82 does have wider rear fenders - they just chose to flare the whole rear quarter panel instead of a fender flare.

F80 on the other had doesn't have enough space - there is a rear door in the way. Best was to do flares instead of design a custom rear door separate from standard 3-series vehicles. Ironically, most enthusiasts prefer flares as they're much more noticeable, me included.

I’m hugely excited over the G82’s exterior including and mainly because of the new fresh front end. What dampens this excitement somewhat is the expected interior. Why o why did you not create a sporty interior worthy a coupe for the 4 series as part of this break from the 3 series mold?

This is about as exciting and sexy as a pair of beige grandma panties with worn elastic...

Leaked G22 interior picture:

Yes, this is unfair with a styled, better colors, no mess etc. picture but it doesn’t matter how much you dress up that G20 based interior, it will never feel nearly as special as this. However if we can select a center tachometer like this in the M4 Screen it would go a long way:

Have to agree, it’s pretty darn bland in there. One of the worst features is that huge sliding panel just in front of the gearstick, just so plain and featureless.

Pretty sure from other pictures we've seen that that is the location of the auto brake sensor.

Can't wait for the final product. Will definitely be my next car in about 2 years after the kinks get work out. I like the front grills.

The 4 series was already wider than the 3 series so when it came to the F80/82 the F80 needed more flare than the F82 and the F80 ended up being wider than the F82 to accommodate the M chassis.

The F80 would have looked stupid with the F82 rear panels but ended up looking a lot better and meatier than the F82 due to classic wheel arch flares combined with the narrower body of the 3 series.

I agree the Porsche is lovely however it's a heavily processed brochure shot in a great colour combination the BMW's is a bland colour scheme beige against alloy trim and just a quick snap.

Give the M4 a lovely full leather interior in Sakhir/black with contrasting stitching and carbon trim set the lighting and dash displays up and process it and it'll look very different.

M4 looks really long and like a bloated boat. Car is just big and you will feel it around town. When I think of BMW, I think of small and compact not a long boat.

BMW midsize cars haven't been small and compact for 20 years. Where have you been?

Yeah you are right. Just longing for the old days. I realize it now when some say that newer is not necessarily better.

I went to The LA Auto Show last week. A 2020 3-series looks tiny compared to most of the automotive offerings. This is not a BMW issue this is an entire industry issue. Cars are massive now, even sports cars. I actually appreciated the BMW dimensions much more after the show.

The 3 and 5 are still relatively tidy in their classes. The 8 however would have been so much more appealing and attractive if it was 25% smaller. That level of engine, luxury and attractive design deserves a more compact package and would have been a killer GT car looks and drive wise. As is however it gives me American coupe vibes and thanks but no thanks.

The 4 looks long and large without references but if the dimensions are similar to the concept 4 I don’t think it will appear bloated irl. It looked tidy on stage next to Hooydonk at the unveil.

I REALLY like how it look in the screen capture above. Dimensions, grill you name it. It looks ace.

No doubt, it’s a heavily exaggerated comparison due to that the only available picture of a G22 we have is that dreary awful combination and messy interior amateur phone snap.

It’s more the geometry, layout and instruments that IMO isn’t attractive or worse, not sporty enough for a coupe with sporty ambitions. A full M dress up will hopefully mean improvements in all those areas.

That said, the confirmation from the M boss that we will not see the G8Xs At our dealers until earliest 1Q 2021 my wife and I started to play around with Porsche configurator for a 992 C4 and the last time that happened was when we waited for the F15 X5 and three months later we had a Cayenne in our drive way...

Looks just like the one on the M2 Comp. I would be painting it matte black on day one - until I replaced the exhaust.

Lol really? The arches (fenders) look bigger and more pronounced than my F82 does!

I can see it looking very aggressive. In manual, rwd with the upgraded seats and ceramics it’s going to be great.

The M3 however, I’m not sure it’s going to wear that front end so well.

If you've got 992 C4 money and don't need the proper rear seats of the M3/4 then I wouldn't bother with the M3/4 either.
