Iconic M things are the kidneys, staggered setup, fender flares, quad exhaust, and a mix of sportiness and DD; they’re all here. They’re actually even more emphasized in this design. This M3 will have one of the most the most iconic M3 designs ever, the other two were E30 and E46 IMO. G82 far looks more distinguishable from 3 series than it ever did, it’s bolder, meaner, and it looks like it’s ready to eat the roads and anything driving on the left lane.

Power dome is not iconic BMW M thing as it didn't exist until 2008.

Iconic M things are the kidneys, staggered setup, fender flares, quad exhaust, and a mix of sportiness and DD; they're all here. They're actually even more emphasized in this design. Eeverything you mention has once been introduced to the M cars over a time....and something that has been on the Ms for 12 years and multiple generations becomes an „icon" somehow IMO
Or did the very first Ms also had quad exhaust?

I didn't say anything that this car won't be iconic or good or whatever...it just loosing the „classy & subtle" approach...and this is was BMW meant to me...their cars never had to follow any wierd trend or extreme designs to look good...

If I look at the hood in this pic, it looks for me like a cheap japan tuning aftermarket part that I would order on an Honda Type R...but I would never say previously that it is a BMW part...

But tastes are different, and this is good.

The power dome was introduced in 2001 on the E46 M3. Its say after almost 20 years, it's more of an iconic M3 thing than ever.

So the M4 will be an AWD coupe with a torque converter, and without a power dome, hoffmeister kink or vertical slats in its (huge) grill. Is there anything aside from the badge to suggest it's not an Audi?

a) Inline six engine (Audi uses V6 engines)
b) RWD/AWD vehicle architecture (yes, MLB is FWD/AWD)
c) Available sedan form factor (No RS4 sedan)

The power dome was introduced on the e46, which I believe was released in 2000. So yes, it has been around a while and, in my opinion, is iconic

Agreed. These people are insufferable and most (not all, but most) will purchase the product.

Somehow I think the soccer moms in Lexus SUVs going 60 in a 70mph zone will still be blocking my way.

The design is to evoke classic BMWs with the angular bonnet flares which are very much an icon for the more racing orientated coupes.
In regards to the power dome. The central section of the strafes is raised for the M3 and M4. And it also differs from the 4.

When you have to explain the design language, then you're saying too much.
